this is comedy

I go out to NY and real street hip hop heads respect good music.
They dont always know whats new out here in the bay, but
I always try to let em know we arent to be slept on.

You can't claim to be much of a "rap" or "hip hop" fan
if you cant respect styles from other area's. Mobb Deep
to me has some of the rawest production period to me!

No you're missing the point, cats who are backed by their labels are the ones who sell units. Major labels that is.
Whether it's commercials, shows, or radio spins, they're getting their name out there more so than the next man.
There were a number of Bay artists that got signed to majors and put out some albums that are considered classics out here... And what happened to them? Nobody was feeling that shit outside the Bay Area.

G,

Didn't Mac Mall sell 250,000 plus while YBB was underground?
Cat sold all the way down South and the mid West.
Dope sells itself even on the underground tip.
Now imagine that shit on a major label?

As for these Bay artists who signed on to major labels, you sure they put out classics that didn't sell?
I remember Mac Mall signin with a major label but Untouchable was no classic. And the same can be said for RBL's first shot nationwide with An Eye for Eye. RBL wasn't the same without Mr. C....

I don't listen to the radio and I'm always lookin for new shit.
The underground shit is always the tightest.

This ain't about respect, it's about quality music.
I grew up listennin to old school shit like Slick Rick, Run DMC, etc.... That's true hiphop right there....
These new artists poppin out New York have taken their music down the drain.

This thread was not aimed at those who like East Coast shit.
I do not care as to why you guys like it, everyone has a reason.
I put this thread up for those who ain't feelin East Coast shit with the goal of trying to find out why they don't like it....

i dunno what dude talking about how east coast has weak production?? They got access to some of the best in the game, And saying mobb deep, wu taung, NAS are wack???? muss be trippin. Wackest cat outta the east right now is killa cam hands down. But wu and nas and mobb are some of the greats, i love west coast rap as much as anybody, but you gotta open your ears or somethin if you think all east coast shit is weak. that goes for all rap and just music in general. Rap is influenced from everything, everywhere, so step ya game up......

Ghetto Theme got play on MTV, it also had Pac in the video and the CD was available everywhere. Does it really get more major than that?

Come on now, you know better than that.
What was the name of the "major" distributor for Illegal Business?
The video was in rotation on MTV, I saw it a lot, the song was on the radio, and the CD was available in stores all over cuz I've seen it on the East Coast. Or how about AKA Sugawolf and Forever Hustlin? Weren't those on a major? I know Ray Luv had a video on MTV... Those are my two favorite albums of all time, I think everyone here can agree that they're bonafide classics with production by one of the dopest producers of all time... Shouldn't those have been outselling all these East Coast artists? The bottom line is nobody really feels the Bay but the Bay. It's like that with music, lifestyle, politics, etc.

lol @ this thread

Miggidy I commend you for at least stating your case in a civilized way (without "fuck the east coast beeeyatch" type shit) but the fact remains that you're grossly generalizing an entire coast on a handful of artists/songs you've heard. I was the same way when I was younger but grew to appreciate the artists you listed as "wack as fuck" when I started opening my mind to shit other than bay/LA shit. Like someone else said "just because you don't like it doesn't mean its wack".

Atlantic did a very bad job with Dubee and Ray Luv, they never got any play outside of the Bay.
Only a certain few can sell in the East Coast and you know it ain't just Bay. Those cats cannot seem to open up to anything other than East Coast shit.
On the other hand, mid Western and Southern cats embrace anything that's good. Including Bay Area shit.

If Wu Tang was tight i'd be bumpin them, no bullshit.
I'm sure you think they're the shit and other people agree with you but "I" and other cats everywhere ain't feeling their wack ass flows. Method was aight at best when you through him in a beat that catered to his style. But the other members? Ghost Face? Come one listen to him, how can you bump a cat like that?
