I've heard tight rap music from every corner of the globe and yes, that includes the east coast. Anyone who says every rapper & every beat coming from the east is wack, is someone who doesn't even deserve to have their posts read.

No, radio playlists & MTV don't dictate what people like. The younger kids are influenced in that way but grown adults arn't. If someone 25+ years old buys a Jay-Z album, it's not because he's a 'zombie' with no opinions of his own... It's because homeboy decided for himself that Jay-Z was spittin' fire, had nice beats, or both.

I know a whole lot of people who don't listen to the radio, watch music video channels and don't take other peoples word for it that something is hot, and still wind up liking music labelled as "mainstream".

One last thing... All these 'mainstream' rappers ain't selling anywhere near what you probably think they are. For 95% of them, it isn't half as big as you think but a lot of you cats buy into the charade.

iono...east coast has a lot of mainstream shit that yall be bumpin like fat joe n 50 cent... But as far as underground goes as well as the more popular shit, I think that it just varies pretty much on where u living... I mean east coast cats talk way differently than west coast catz, so therefore their raps are different. ya kno what i'm saying? So obviously we aint really gona feel all dat underground shit they be bumpin and they not gona feel much of ours unless you got an eclectic taste.

My own personal opinion though, we got the most different rhyme stylez n shit. We alwayz got new innovations on how to spit some ill shit. Like east coast all their shit basically follows the same rhyme style. Their voices bore me to death. Wu-tang, Nas ... they're tite though you gotta give em propz even if they're slightly overrated.

heh..but east coast knows cali is the place to be. We got the flyest bichez, the best cars, the best weather, the best chronic...shieeet. You can't fukc wit cali game.

i only read the first post and had to jump to reply real quick in regards to mobb deep among other east coast rappers being weak, man.... there is no question Mobb Deep has some sick ass flows, and the production is sick, The Imfamous, Hell on Earth, Murder Musik, it has been slightly down hill from those albums, Imfamy and Americaz Nightwares were not the top of there form but still solid. I think theres just as much bullshit being put out on both coasts. and to the guy talkin about east coast only talks about jewelry big trucks etc, you have a real twisted perception of east coast music if all your watching is mtv and bet, dont let those outlets fog your perception as the only shit coming out of the east coast. i think music as a whole is going to shit, i rarely buy albums anymore, I just listen to older shit

Right on people for giving me your feedback, this thread was directed at cats who ain't feelin East Coast shit in general.
Somehow all the East Coast fans of BART decided to deffend their favorite MC's LOL!
Reason behind this is cuz I've discussed this shit to some East Coast fans and they just don't seem to get it.
seems like you dont seem to get it, regardless of the topic, people have opinions, while a battle of factual data can eventually lead to an outcome, the same cannot be said for a discussion regarding opinions, it seems like you just brought the conversation here (directed at cats who aint feelin the east coast) to feel better about yourself and your opinion, since my guess is your getting verbally assaulted on the other message board, post up the link to the forum so we can get a peek

Maybe I need to rephrase that question,
what makes today's East Coast artists so weak?

I've been havin this convo with some East Coast cats over in another forum and I can't seem to make them understand why everyone else thinks their artists are wack.

They named cats like Mob Deep, Wu Tang, Killarmy, Nas, etc. And I told them they were wack as hell and explained that it's because of their shitty production coupled with their dreaded New York flow. And that's where they got caught up in, "what dreaded New York flow?".
We've all heard it, the boring, too laid back lazy, sounds like they're talking flow. It sounds a lot like modern poetry and not "music"....
In my opinion, it is this flow style that makes these cats so wack.

What do you guys think?
Some how these East Coast cats don't understand what I'm stressin but to me it is clearer than water.
Specially when you compare the good East Coast artists with the wack ones. For instance, Cuban Link. His style is more of a West Coast type. Actually, it wouldn't be fair to call it a West Coast type of flow. It should be called a non-New York style flow. Cuz from what I've heard so far, Mid West and Southern cats sound similar to West Coast artists and vice versa.
It is the East Coast artists who have this unique but wack ass flow....
Who?

East Coast has always been crackin' they started it, you got to give props when props is due that's just how it is regardless if your feeling them or not, they make mad moves over there, especially in T-Dot.

1. Not a lot of creativity. Too much sampling of beatz and flows from old school artists. I mean in a major way.
2. East Coast catz tend to stick together and not do a lot of collaborations with anybody outside the East Coast.
3. Not giving any credit of using Bay lingo and slang in their tracks
4. They do more club banger tracks than real street life tracks.
5. A lot try to claim to be gangstas but only a few are. Using their rap group at a gang set and not a hood.
6. There is a a lot Tupac imitators in the East Coast and not giving any credit to Tupac.
7. They tend to not include West Coast artists when their concert tours perform at West Coast venues.
8. Radio friendly

Yo, I mean this in da most obeyish way possible, but any opinion is always a good opinion. Boss playa raising up some good points, mayn. There is just few who like to analyze the lyrical style to their own homegrown beatz. If you going to bring up Nas, the man can't rap battle cuz the fool aka writah(can't freestyle) and he chickened out when Jay Z try to go into the rap battle ring with him. Unrehearsed. Well, I have to give you credit to have the ballz of braggin you a Mobb Deep fan in Tupac Nation. Wonder why Mobb Deep doesn't do regular shows in the West Coast? Talib Kweli is from Cinncinati, right? Last time I checked...isn't that MidWest. Midwest shows a lot of luv to the West Coast. Can't argue you on dat, boss playa.
