What makes East Coast artists weak?

Maybe I need to rephrase that question,
what makes today's East Coast artists so weak?

I've been havin this convo with some East Coast cats over in another forum and I can't seem to make them understand why everyone else thinks their artists are wack.

They named cats like Mob Deep, Wu Tang, Killarmy, Nas, etc. And I told them they were wack as hell and explained that it's because of their shitty production coupled with their dreaded New York flow. And that's where they got caught up in, "what dreaded New York flow?".
We've all heard it, the boring, too laid back lazy, sounds like they're talking flow. It sounds a lot like modern poetry and not "music"....
In my opinion, it is this flow style that makes these cats so wack.

What do you guys think?
Some how these East Coast cats don't understand what I'm stressin but to me it is clearer than water.
Specially when you compare the good East Coast artists with the wack ones. For instance, Cuban Link. His style is more of a West Coast type. Actually, it wouldn't be fair to call it a West Coast type of flow. It should be called a non-New York style flow. Cuz from what I've heard so far, Mid West and Southern cats sound similar to West Coast artists and vice versa.
It is the East Coast artists who have this unique but wack ass flow....

Just cuz you don't like it don't mean it's weak

I been to record stores on the East Coast, I was buying classic albums by people like Quinn, Dre Dog, JT for like a dollar, there's hella bay shit in the used sections cuz nobody is feelin that shit out there.

I think the difference between the East and the West is that they have more respect for their rap pioneers than we do. When is the last time you heard somebody give a shout out to Hugh-E MC, or Philthy Phil ?

and they do have a wack boring flow..

they think just cause they say fancy lyrics..
that they can rap wiht that boring tone..

i like a lot of east coast cats......some are gay as fuck, camron and dipset.....but alot got heat, jay z, wu tang, beanie siegel, jadakiss, gangstarr, mos def, nas, gunit....theres alot of talent on the east...i just think they think more about their raps sometimes and put more thaught into them then just killin everyone on the block and what their gang affiliation is

Man..mobb deep is hot and production is hot too. East coast ain't wack dog. It's just the industry politics that make people hate them. that's it. every coast is hot. Us in the Bay gotta stay focused on getting us looked at through our fashion, music, our culture out here and we'll get ours. But as long as hella people keep dressing like everybody they see in all others coasts video's we'll never have our own shit.

G, I understand that but this ain't about what you feel and what you ain't feelin.
I'm tryin to narrow down why the rest of the country (outside New York) ain't feelin their shit.
And the one thing that becomes aparrent is their flow.
It just isn't harmonized, and doesn't sound like music.

As far as them not feelin our music, them cats never feel anything outside of their little box.

I dunno about all that... I'm willing to bet that people like Mobb Deep, Cam'ron, Juelz Santana, Nas, Jay-Z, Memphis Bleek, Jadakiss, Raekwon, Kanye West, Beanie Sigel and a million others are outselling Bay artists right here in the Bay Area, and probably most West Coast artists here in the West Coast.

No need to worry homie..the yay is bout to blow again..so we don't have to even worry about any other coast but our own. We are steppin up our flow, our production everything. So there you have it. Plus this is our summer and watch late this year and 05 is ours.

how would u go about categorizing all east coast artist as weak flow..wack production..and dumb lyrical content..thats ignorance..like folks outside of cali stereotyping all W.C rap as lowrider gangbanging drug dealin shit...its tight shit on the east..jadakiss...he got venom..nas..older shit real hard..some newer shit worth a listen..and plus u gotta remember them cats are from a different environment..u might not appeal directly to there style but that doesnt make it ALL weak..open ya mind pimp

In general I think there delivery is bland.. I like more animated deliveries.. Emotion is more revealed.. Thats general.. Im fellin Nas, DMX, Wu, Meth, Just Blaze... Camron is aight.... Few other but IJMO

West Coast was all over the radio and MTV a few years ago, now they're not... I don't think the radio or the East is to blame for that.

Well just about all of them have this wack flow. And their beats are weak for the most part which explains why those artists who mix their beats are selling more. Example, Jay Z, 50 Cent, Jadakiss, and a few others.

I never said their lyrical content was dumb although that is something that plagues rap in general now days.

My mind is open to anything that's tight. That's why I dig Big Pun and Cuban Link even though they are from the East.
I'd just like to see more East Coast cats learn from them. They both have the best lyrics around but it's their delivery that sets them apart from other New York artists.
You got any other East Coast artists that can do the same, let me know I'll be happy to copp their records.

No you're missing the point, cats who are backed by their labels are the ones who sell units. Major labels that is.
Whether it's commercials, shows, or radio spins, they're getting their name out there more so than the next man.

^^ well what your stating is all personal preference...i cant really call it..cuz i give u an artist from the east i think is tight u might not feel(i.e jadakiss)...but u give me one and i might not feel it either(cuban link)..i do however dig the old Pun shit..dude had flows....Cormega is another that im feelin...some of dmx shit was raw...u gotta listen to more than what u hear on the radio too..scan thru some albums..thats where the truth lies
