Im pretty sure when people say Mc they mean a lyricist or someone who isnt a hip pop artist. I understand mc and rapper are the same but Mc isnt use for just any rapper. I dont think you would call Bow wow or any of the d4l cats mcs

i agree with the dj and turntablist and bars and rhymes./ There just so many "rappers" out there it just seems "mc's" are a dying bread. People who are still makin THEIR art. Thats how i see it i dont just call anyone an mc. You can disagree but regardless thats how i see it.

People who are sick of the materialism and cultural degradation of mainstream music seperate "rap" and "hip-hop" in order to create a clear distinction.

Basically,
If you aren't saying anything to uplift the conciousness then you are excluded.

Rapper - A person whose music depreciates the value of hip hop.

i consider rap someone like eazy e or spice 1, ppl who talk about killing so and so directly like "im still shotting muthafuckas"

hip hop i consider a little more creative with the wordplay ppl like gza or wutang where the lyrics are the main content and they dont really hang on to that kil kil kill like x raideds phsyco active or esham.

so those that adds value to hip hop are not rappers? so who's to say whats adding or depreciating hip hop? thats all based on opinion...you may think lil jon is degrading hip hop, whereas I may think he's bringing back the simplicity and party aspect it had when it began....and he single handedly brought back the call & response....

now everybody say HOOOO!

I agreed with everything you said (especially saying Defy is right) but you can't classify all turntablism as an instrumental....for example the avalanches frontier psychiatrist is not an instrumental, there are far too many vocals....but the vocals are scratched in from vinyl.....but yeah, you basically nailed it besides that
Cuts aside, turntablism for the most is very much instrumental.

Rap = reality

Hip Hop = ideality

Basically rap is capitalism and hip hop is socialism (hippie shit). That's how I look at it at least.

I consider hip-hop not only a culture, but a genre also. Current mainstream rap (to me at least) now falls under its own category, like it separated itself from hip-hop. Like if you guys foreal listen to T.I. "What You Know" compared to Crown City Rockers' "B-Boy" you'll be able to tell right away that one separates itself from the other. This is just my opinion, but hope y'all know where i'm commin' from.

If y'all never heard "B-Boy" by Crown City check it out, it's Hip-Hop 101:

Sure it isnt truly a "culture" but its the best way to define hip-hop. Rapping, breaking, djing, graffiti art yeah its all something you just do but, its far more deeper than that. The way you dress, the way you speak, what you listen to, your attitude, your behavior, your thoughts. Thats why people refer to it as a "culture", a movement, like your living hip-hop. Just like the hyphy movement, it has its own language, it has its own type of music, it has its own perspective, etc. some might even call it culture, Bay Area Hip-Hop culture. And you're right a few things in hip-hop is just something you do but, like KRS One said: "Rap is something you do. Hip-Hop is something you live." You dont have to agree with me, but lettin' you know where im commin from.

^^^everything you just mentioned are all "things you do" though. I suppose all of those things could be parts of a culture, but even all of them combined are not an actual culture in and of itself.

And just out of curiosity, what is the hip hop way to think? to behave? to speak? I aint sayin you are wrong, just interested in how you will explain these.

hip hop and rap, both terms have been watered down and inter mingled so much it's hard to say.......this woulda been a better question during the nineties....not to clown either, but just being real...
"rap" and "hip hop" were related but seperate terms....now they are used interchangably by these young kids nowadays....
