you bought an album, from a new artist....and you saw a few good features on the cover....BUT when you heard the album, the features are only on hooks....no verses....and the artist was tight......would you feel ripped off?

curious...

I dont buy albums for features...whats the point of that?Thats like going to a authentic mexican restuarant and orderin a hamburger...

But I get what youre sayin. That shit is retarded when they pay for rap artist to do a hook...thats what singers are for!!!!

how is that? 40 uses many artists for his hooks....

I bet not that many people know that it's Big Lurch on the hook of "Record Haters"........
My point is..."featuring(insert favorite rap artist here)"...and hes on the hook...its not worth the ink on the insert tray.Now..when you see a singer featured on the cut,you know his ass is singin...thus worth puttin the name next to the song...

if its limited to a song or 2 thats cool but when you try fakin the funk and do a entire album thats wack...example...B-Legit Word Pimpin....was led to believe it was a Bla album and it was far from that....

for a minute, i was thinking of doing this....because i figured, i ned to shine on my first album, prove myself.....and i didn't want to flood my album with features, but a couple wouldn't hurt.....so i was thinking of putting them only on the hooks......some of it had to do with money, but i was just in the "save a buck" type of mentality....but most of it had to do with the whole, get my shine on/prove myself type.......but i got louie loco, kee, mousie, gambino of x-felonz ready to drop something for ya boy.....

to me the fact of adding features is not as much for the fans as for distributors. Obviously puttin another talented artist on your project can only help you but there is alot of very talented artists that would not charge because they have no established name. You need to have features not so much to give the fans something because they have already heard Quinn on 15 other albums in the past 6 months. As a fan myself I'm not lookin to hear somethin that I've already heard before but a distributor IS lookin for somethin similar to what has already sold before because they want as close to a sure shot as possible. So yeah do what you gotta do to get those few features so that distributors are interested and then give them the best album that you have in you and promote the fuck out of it. thats what i think....

of course i'd be disappointed if all the features were on the hooks only, but if the artist is really that tyte, then it would make up for it.

but personally, if i only had the features on hooks, then i wouldn't even bother puttin em on my front cover.

i agree with that also....i think debuts should focus more on the artist than anything else...cause honestly is doesnt say much for your skill if right off the bat you got to have hella cats on your shit to sell records...but at the same time i can see how there can be a thin line cause you want ppl to hear your shit that wouldnt normally would, and having features can be one of those ways,so i never blame ppl for having to many features but personally i think it detracts from the overall product especially if its a debut

If it was a local artist I would go holler at him in person. I would feel ripped off it was from a mainstream cat and I would prolly throw it out of the window and run over it with my Nova.
