thank you...... thats why the south is blowing the fuck up! they support their artists. i guess all we can do is really spread the word any way we can, thru internet and word of mouth. the bay is on its way back up though so just sit back and watch.
That's no excuse. Fans in the South have computers too. It's just that the south actaully has good music and doesn't really trip on all this in-fighting and bullshit. The Bay supports Bay artists as much as it can, the problem is there is too many damn Bay artists. Like Quinn said, make some quality videos and quality music and the fans will notice. Stop yelling all this independent until we die bullshit and sign with a major and get your shit in stores nationwide. In the South you can mom and pop it out and still at least go gold because Texas alone can make you gold. The Bay alone won't get you shit but hard times and your cd used for drink coasters.

only 2000 copies that suxx, damn too many bootlegers :ermm:
Nope thats not the problem, The Problem is the album is a underground release on a independent record company and distributor that usually makes a release impossible to purchase and order in many areas. I'm a artist myself some of my past albums are in the same situation. Think about something if it wasn't for the net then people outside the West would've never known Ya Boy even existed. We all gotta start telling everyone about slept on artist and playing they shit so more people will check them out.

Back to the subject...

I live in Cincinnati and they don't carry it here. I'm not gonna lie before the album dropped I downloaded on my PC, then I liked it and I wanted to support a hungry artist bc I respect the hustle Bc I'm sure he has kids to feed so I bought it off CdUniverse.Com.

Some of yall don't know what bootleggers are.

A Bootlegger duplicates a product then sells it to make profit for him or hers own pocket. Theres a major difference in downloading a album for yourself to listen to and see if its worth your time to even buy.

Also just bc a artist didn't scan alot in a store dosen't mean he weak or anything. Don't forget you also get so many personal copies from the distributing company that you can just sell out your trunk or hand and pocket all the money instead of having it taken out of your check from sales and etc. He couldve really sold 20,000 copies and the 2,000 was just scanned in the stores.

Wait, Wait, Wait, Wait. I see alotta are surprised by ya boy's numbers. What kinda numbers do yall think us bay area artists put up? the team, federation, frontline, mistah fab, etc, etc does these kinda numbers. my group FULLY LOADED was doing 10,000 an album in 2001 also. so dont be surprised thats just how it is now. so what we gotta do is stay pushin and yall keep supporting and this shit will pop off. im not worried about it. im thru wit complaining about the bay areas struggles. ya boy numbers are only 2,000 but thats alot more than most rappers out here, believe it or not. so dont be disappointed yall, just keep pushing.

just some inspriational support for yall! LOL

Lets not all forget that this is his debut cd. most havent heard of ya boy since he's been around for about 6-8 months. if its such a good album it will sell on word of mouth and over time. but bootleggin dont hurt sales cus the people that bootleg it buy it or sell it, whatever you wanna say werent going to buy it in the first place. if they wanted to buy it really bad they'd go to the cd store not the corner store.

Most of what you said is right on the money. But the comment about not being able to rely on the Bay alone to sell records is false. The bay has the 4th largest consumer market for music in the country. So please believe major albums are being purchased. The real problem is the promotion of albums. Half the time people in the Bay dont even know albums are out unitl one of they homies tell em. There's no excuse for this at all. Cats need to stop being cheap and get commercials promoting they album played on all the radio stations as well as local tv channels in the Bay and sac. These cats also need to network out here in LA too. The market is wide open in LA cuz aint nobody form LA really makin any noise right now. Plus the college crowd is on our nuts in LA. They luv our culture and music. We just need to start floodin the streets wit our shit. What good does it do if yo album is in stores but nobody knows it.

And do yall cats actually look at riaa or billboard? Cuz nobody in texas is straight mom and popin it wit no video or anything and still going at least gold and i mean NOBODY. Shit slim thug aint even gold and he has 3 videos to date. Dont get me wrong tho, a lot of them cats is doin they thang, but goin gold off just mom and pops is not happenin. Yes, them texas cats is doin it movin right now. But its not cuz they makin better music. Its cuz they network in the whole south instead of just they region like Bay artist always do. Plus they being backed by majors and being signed to a major makes a hell of a lot of a difference in promoting you as an artist than just being an indie. You cant even begin to compare the whole state of texas to the Bay because its more of they artist that are signed than in the Bay.

Lets all not forget that the album only dropped 3 weeks ago. Give it some time to sell.

those numbers are very respectable for a bay area artist for 1 month. his record is damn good and he will sell many more. we dont do those 50 cent, jay-z, nelly numbers yet, but cats like ya boy has the potential to do so.

Excuses will always be made! If ya boy wants to blow, he could! He just can't expect to sit on his ass and let the album speak for him self.

You are who you roll with! So if your always with artist or companys that only sell 5000-10000 then that what your always going to sell! If you want to sell like a top selling artist, you must associate with top selling artist! Try and network with huge artist! You can't expect to just blow in the bay! That will never happen! Never! Only person who has is e40! We can honestly say that was a long time ago.

It kills me when people point fingers at others with excuses like, people burn my music, that's why I can't sell albums. Bullshit, if you didn't know, the people who are downloading albums are fucking kids, teenagers. Now we all shold relax and stop pointing fingers at others and just realize its ourselves! If you didn't sell enough to get recognized, its your fault.

Get ot there and get known! After that people will follow!

seriously do you think its bootleggers?

how many people do you think bootlegged this album? 10,000 people? give an honest answer on how many people bootlegged this - my guess would probably be 1000-1500. I don't have this album and given the chance not sure if i would bootlegg it. I truthfully have no desire to listen to it. I didn't feel that star wars song so i have no desire to peep it. Not hating, just being truthful.

First of all, doing signings at rasptins aint shit, only getting on 106 or 949 is good, but not good enough!

I'm talking about networking! Getting out there in other citys and promoting the name, the sound! Promote ya boy, get out there and show people what ya boy is! Because word of mouth only goes so far, that shit works if you have connects in different states and in high places! These days its all about who you know! You can be the hardest artist ot there, but with no ambition, no drive, an album don't mean shit! Like we've seen and will continue to see, anyone can drop and album. Now ya boy just proved he can do what everyone else has! This bay area rap shit is in it own category, and always will be!

Those numbers are about right, regardless how tight the record is. I'm sure everyone hear knows who and how dope AZ is and his new album A.W.O.L only sold 11k first week. He's on KOCH 10yrs deep in the game, video, promotion. Half the people that complain don't buy it anyway. If you do purchase it try and do so from Best Buy or somewhere so the scans get seen. One of the few records from Cali worth buying this year.
