i can listen to an album with incredible lyrics but mediocre beats (ex- revolutionary vol. 1) but i cant list to an album with great beats & mediocre lyrics. if the lyrics/delivery are lacking, i cant fuck with it. like with berner-- nice production, but nothing he says sounds authentic.

but really, in most circumstances i need both lyrics & production to be on point to truly enjoy an album.

for me............ it has to sound good sonically and have good content. plus there has to be at least 1 or 2 well put together singles on the album. i think that most albums i listen to from the bay recently are lacking when it comes to the singles and that for me seriously diminishes the replay value of the album. i think the last bay area album i really listened to was the jacka tear gas. my fav song on that album was "Glamorous Lifestyle" ft. Andre Nickatina although i wish that nickatina would have spit a whole 16 on that track.

^^^^^^^^^^^ i see a lot of people complain about too many features on a solo album but i dont mind as long as it doesnt sound like a compilation. but since i peeped that ive made a couple albums w/ no features. ;)

Lyrics and content for me personally when I'm listening...

If I'm tryin to party and have fun then good beats, choruses...

A true solid album should have it all...

That's what I miss about PAC albums a lot he brought versatility...

A serious political song, party song, bitches song, battle fuck ur enemies song...
Something for every type of mood...

albums are lacking so much production wise these days that that's definitely more important of the 2. With that being said I can't really even listen to rappers that don't have flows these days

My personal opinion is that you may have a solid album, but the way you choose to place your tracks can make the biggest difference in a bad way.

Too many artist focus on making the "hot track / single," but fail to really take the time to put the album together using a theme. And I mean taking the time to listen to each track so that it sort of matches the next and so on. This keeps your album from being all over the place and sounding like a complete mess.

the problem these days is that most rappers care more about what the album cover looks like more than the music, because u could see dope art work on a album and then when u listen to the cd the shit is wack beats and gay hooks.....STOP usin wack ass beats and terrible hooks......the MOST important thing is the beats & lyrics, fuck gimmick album covers.

I LIKE WHEN THE ARTIST ACTUALLY TAKES TIME TO PUT AN ALBUM TOGETHER... MEANING DONT JUST RECORD 20 TRACKS AND THROW THEM ON A CD WITH TIGHT GRAPHICS... AND WHY DO ALL THESE RAPPERS PUT OUT LIKE 30 MIXTAPES WHERE THEY GAS IT AND THEN THE ACTUAL ALBUM COMES OUT AND ITS WORSE THAN TRASH... THE LESS I HEAR FROM AN ARTIST IS USUALLY BETTER FOR ME.... ABSENCE CREATES ANTICIPATION...DROP A NICE SINGLE EVERY FEW MONTHS AND MAYBE A MIXTAPE AS A PRECURSOR TO THE ALBUM AND THEN PUT THE ALBUM OUT...
