i hear alot of people talk about "hip hop culture"... but i dont get into shit that deep. why dont you tell me what real hip hop is because you're the one that's sayin there's a distinction between the two (hip hop & rap)...
people try to seperate the music based on content...thats why you have people having saying that there is a distinction between hiphop music and rap music. they call the more introspective/lyricism type of music "hip hop" and the commercial/materialistic etc type of music "rap"...if you got a beat and sombody is rhyming/rapping on that shit thats hiphop music regarless of the content in my opinion.

Just messin wit u Locc! But seriously tho some people are always tied to only one type of music like just gangsta rap or old school rap & oldies & disliking everything else & thats not cool at all, ya gotta open your minds to whatever is good & interesting cuz to me its a healthy wonderful thing, its called critical motivation! A benificial way of relaxing your mind!

i feel yall... when i said "in my opinion that shit is weak" i wasnt saying that those rappers/lyricist were weak, i meant that im not really feelin the content but they definately got talent. but to anwser your question siccfucc i consider anybody with flows a real rapper. like i said before i dont think theres any distinctions between rap and hip hop, the only thing i see different in the two is the content, but i dont think thats a big enough factor to consider them 2 different genres of music. just my opinion..

heres a good question though. whats the difference between a lyricist and a rapper? the content? if you really think about it there is no difference cause like tc said if you got a beat and someone rhyming on it's still rap regardless of what's being said..

i have never understood the concept of a "lyricist" either...i mean,of course some rappers have better, more in-depth lyrics than others, but i have never considered them to be lyricists.makes it sound like thats all they have to offer is just lyrics, when there is so much more that goes into a good rapper.

to me, a lyricist is someone who upholds the tradition of black music in the sense of creating lyrics to inform, tell a story or comment on social issues...anyone who raps has this ability however only a few people create lyrics in this manner on a regular basis. but i also think that being just a lyricist doesnt make someone better or worse than someone who isnt a lyricist...it just mean they work within a different niche in the same genre of music...
