Earlier this year, Seattle coach Mike Holmgren was asked by a Fox Sports reporter about the fact that the 49ers swept his team last season. Holmgren's response in the story: "I guarantee that won't happen this season." The 49ers say they aren't making a big deal about the comment, but it's not like they're ignoring it, either. Both Mike Nolan and Alex Smith said today they'd heard or read about the quote. "We'll see," Smith said in response to the guarantee.

Holmgren, however, insists he didn't make it. "Does that sound like something I'd say?" he asked on today's conference call. Ok, then, what did he say? "'That can't happen again,' is, I believe, the direct quote."

^Because Gore's running will open things up for the passing game... it's not that hard to figure out. Once they get Gore going (which they will) they can mix in some play action passes and get Alex Smith rolling out of the pocket...

What makes you think that? Im just curious. If by offense you mean Gore, than i agree. However, you cant win with Gore being 60% of the offense again this year.
Nothing makes me think that, Im more or less hoping they get it together. The O-line has an pretty bad this year. If they get it together then the offense can get the ballo rolling. If they dont do it this game, I hope they can do it the next game.

Im not trying to say this is going to be a easy game whatsoever. But if the Niners are going to get it together anytime soon, they better hurry up and get it going this week but because we got Baltimore next week.

You say it like its already happened!?!?

Once they get Gore going (which they will)
Again, I have no clue as to WHY you are so cemented in this statement...care to elaborate?

they can mix in some play action passes and get Alex Smith rolling out of the pocket...
It hasnt worked YET this year..so why all of a sudden?

And please, use logic when you try and answer these questions.

STL has one of the WORST run defenses in the NFL, and Gore only had ONE big run...but was held in check before that...just to throw you that "worhtless" stat.

On top of that, AZ is ranked 15th in the league in run defense, and Seattle 16th...Gore only had 55 yds against them.

Another "worthless" stat for you.

I see the point you're tryin to make, but the few times that they have rolled Alex Smith out of the pocket, there have been good results. It comes down to their O-Line which is average and their predictable ass play calling.

The Niners will win this game because this is their opportunity to get a good jump on the division lead. They'll be 3-0 in their division plus they'll hand Seattle another loss. They really need this win because they have Baltimore coming to town in a few weeks.

So because of an opportunity to take a lead…and the need to win this game…they will win? How many times have teams had the opportunity to take the lead in their division…and needed to…and fell flat on their face.

In the Smith is a bust thread you were talking about how teams just stack the box and make him try to beat you. What makes you think Seattle won’t do the same? He’s been terrible this year…why is this the game he turns it around?

Because they NEED to?

Fuck as soon as I write this I am sure the opposite is gonna happen but...

Seattle's secondary is good enough that they should be able to stack the box and still shut down the passing game.

However, Seattle's offense has DEFINITELY been suspect this season, and with Alexander's knew injury, he will likely be acting more pussified than usual.

This should prove to be a close, low scoring game.

Advantage Seattle

Nothing interesting about this thread, all the Niner fans claiming their boys going to win, all the Seahawk fans claiming their boys going to win or atleast playing devil's advocate.

That's why this whole NFL machine works, optimism in every fanbase.
