This is a horrible fuckin idea. Sure, the Hip Hop greats from the 1980s and the early 1990s will be remembered in an honorable way but after that, stick a fuckin fork in it, its over. After Pac passed away, we entered the Puff Daddy / Master P era of rap, and we've been stuck in it ever since.
The best rappers of modern day are not even recognized outside their region, yet you really think a Hip Hop Hall of fame would come knocking on Atmosphere's door in Minnesota? Techn9ne in Kansas City? Mac Dre in Vallejo? San Quinn in San Francisco?
Have a Hip Hop Hall of Fame and witness the class of 2000-Present: Soulja Boy, Kayne West, Dipset, Rick Ross, 50 Cent, Eminem, The Game, Jay Z etc. etc. IS THAT REALLY WHAT YOU WANT? What's even funnier is almost every cat I named just now has some how destroyed Hip Hop's credibility.
Let Hip Hop be what it really should be: diggin through crates and shelves looking for that rare album or artist no one can find. Discovering new artists through word of mouth or just giving someone's CD a shot. Living in Northern California and knowing who Mitchy Slick is. Living on the East Coast and knowing who Living Legends are.
Don't ever let anyone pick what's good Hip Hop for you. Hip Hop needs to be sneaker boutique or fine wine music or like the hole in the wall in your city that cracks that no one knows about. Those who know Hip Hop will forever be in-tuned to who the real greats are and those who dont will live life on the outside thinking they are on the inside.
There were great rappers before and after Pac homie.....I hear what u saying but Rock n Roll got something to call theirs so we need something to call ours.
Everybody is too concerned with having people inducted cuz they didn't like them.....There are plenty of rappers I don't like but I still think they should be considered....Just like their are rappper I do like that at this point I wouldn't consider.
Alot of great rappers of today aren't recognized outside their region thats why we would need a strong and credible committee.....People who respect hip hop as a whole and dig deep into an artist profile....People who are true fans of this shit.
Nas named his album Hip Hop is dead cuz he cares about the art.....Ice-T thrashed Soulja Boy cuz in his words "Hip Hop has to last forever and it won't last with u doing that Super Man bullshit".....He cares and I respect that shit.
I seriously doubt Soulja Boy or Dipset would make it with a strong and credible committe.
Hip Hop needs something to honor the big names, little names and forgotten names of the game.
BET Hip Hop Awards, VH1 Hip Hop Honors and Source Awards were bassically a showcasing the popular artist of today along with a few legends......There are monsters in the underground and outside the US who deserve to be mentioned too.
Those award shows I just named have no credibility in my book just like these hip hop publications have no credibility.....Everyones bias.
And I'll say it again.....No one hit wonders......Cuz eventually songs like Crank Dat, Lean Like A Cholo and Laffy Taffy would probaly make it those artist and those songs should be forgotten.
