MEXICO CITY - The World Boxing Council ordered Hasim Rahman to fight Kazakhstan's Oleg Maskaev in defense of his heavyweight title, with the winner to face James Toney.
Rahman, handed the WBC belt when Vitali Klitschko retired last November, drew his first defense against Toney on March 18. Toney wanted a rematch but the WBC differed.
"Both boxers must accept that the winner of the Rahman-Maskaev match must fight James Toney," the WBC said in a statement on Thursday.
It set a May 1 deadline for agreement on the bout.
Rahman (41-5-2) lost to Maskaev (32-5) in 1999, in an eighth-round knockout.
Maskaev, out of the ring since November, has won his last 10 fights.
I say Makaev wops his ass again.....
