This thread was an idea I came up with a week ago in another thread. Many here will tell you that a big problem for local artists is that the radio rarely plays local music. Some believe that it's because 106.1 KMEL & Wild 94.9 have sold out to major record labels. What I believe though is that for all the fans that a lot of Bay Area rappers have, there's very, very little fan support. I'm not even talking about buying their albums, I'm talking about being a visible fan-base. What radio station is going to play a song that as far as they're aware no one's going to buy?
My idea for this thread and this board is for members to name and rank five songs that they think should be on the radio. After a week, I'll tally all the votes, and I'll create a second thread with the top 10 most voted songs, where members will vote on a poll for the song they want on the radio. What I'd ask is for all of the members on BART to vote for the song with the most votes onto KMEL and Wild 94.9. These are the websites where members can vote:
http://www.kmel.com/pages/equest.html
http://www.wild949.com/pages/request.html
This is the format members should use:
1)
2)
3)
4)
5)
The more members participate, the more songs will be considered and the more interesting it will be. While I'd ask that members try to vote for more recent songs, there's no cap on how old the songs can be. You can just as easily vote a song from 2012 as you can a song from 1988.
With all that being said, I'm looking forward to seeing what the Siccness ends up voting for.
