Question 7: The Marijuana Initiative
Opposing sides discuss the legalization of marijuana
A key question confronting voters on election day is whether or not to allow limited legalization of marijuana.
Question 7: The Marijuana Initiative, would:
Exempt persons 21 years of age and older from any civil or criminal penalty due to the possession or use of one ounce or less of marijuana.
Provide for the regulation and taxation of marijuana by the state and earmark part of those revenues to prevent and treat drug abuse.
Stiffen penalties for a person age 18 and older who supplies marijuana to persons under the age of 18.
Increase the penalty for driving under the influence of marijuana.
Thursday morning on News 3 at Sunrise, Sue Manteris and Mitch Truswell were joined by White House Drug Czar John Walters, against legalization, and the organization "Regulate Marijuana," for legalization, to discuss the initiative.
