"Do you believe the media should publish cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed blamed for numerous deaths and riots across the world?"

I voted No.

I also know at least one US media outlet has reprinted the pictures already (Philadelphia Inquirer).

NO
But the freedom of the press does come with responsibility and that responsibility should be governed by morality. It's a bad mistake that could have been excused if it were only made once, but to repeat it numerously shows us there is far more to this issue than press freedom, it is just being used as a shield.

&

to put the blame only on the depiction in the cartoon is simplistic. the protests and "riots" are a result of a number of occurrences systemic to the hegemonic west’s relations with the islamic world(particularly the middle east).

There definitely was a motive behind the pictures. They were originally printed in a right-wing anti-immigrant newspaper in Denmark, Jyllands-Posten which I think were deliberately trying to provoke Muslim violence to further strengthen their (racist) beliefs.

I read an article that said the newspaper is linked politically to an anti-immigrant Danish Party that is “opposed to a multi-cultural approach to the growing immigrant population in Denmark and has declared that it is impossible to assimilate Muslims into Danish society.” link

The same article later asks a question that I want to share…

Let us pose a question to the crusaders for press freedom. Suppose, on Martin Luther King Day last month, a daily newspaper in Birmingham, Alabama had published a derogatory and racist cartoon of the murdered civil rights leader—something that could only serve to legitimize the revival of racial stereotyping and repression.

Suppose further, that this provocative cartoon resulted in angry and even violent protest demonstrations, and that, in “solidarity,” major daily newspapers in the United States proclaimed it their duty to defend “press freedom” by reprinting the overtly racist cartoon on their front pages? What would be the reaction of those who are today lining up behind the right-wing provocateurs in the name of “press freedom”?

I was watching CNN a couple of days ago and they had the editor of that newspaper, he said this atleast 5 times in his interview "When we printed the cartoons it was not our intention to hurt muslims and that we are sorry" thats like suicide bombers going on video before they blow themselves in a supermarket saying " Our intentions are not to hurt innocent people" but in both cases those are the only possible outcomes. Heres something that might be an interesting read to you guys, this is some of the last khutbah or sermon so to say, of the prophet Mohammad s.a.w about two months before he died

Ninth Day of Dhul-Hijjah 10 A.H.(which is 580 A.D from my calculations not sure if its accurate) in the 'Uranah valley of Mount Arafat' in Mecca.

After praising and thanking Allah the Prophet (saws) said:

"O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying very carefully and take these words to those who could not be present here today.

O People, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your Lord, and that he will indeed reckon your deeds. Allah has forbidden you to take usury (interest), therefore all interest obligations shall henceforth be waived. Your capital is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer any inequity. Allah has judged that there shall be no interest and that all the interest due to Abbas ibn 'Abd'al Muttalib [the Prophet's uncle] be waived.

Beware of Satan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hope of that he will be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.

O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under Allah's trust and with His permission. If they abide by your right, then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with anyone of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste. O People, listen to me in earnest, worship Allah, say your five daily prayers, fast during the month of Ramadhan, and give your wealth in Zakat. Perform Hajj if you can afford to.

All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any superiority over a white - except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belogs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not therefore do injustice to yourselves. Remember one day you will meet Allah and answer your deeds. So beware: do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.

O People, no prophet or apostle will come after me, and no new faith will be born. Reason well, therefore, O People, and understand my words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the Qur'an and my Sunnah and if you follow these you will never go astray.

All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness, O Allah, that I have conveyed Your message to Your people."

Hersey, the resources for Khutbat al Wad'ah or the farewell sermon come from the book of sahih al muslim and the book of sahih al bukhari which date back to about 200 years after the prophet s.a.w death. Also the sermon is in sunnan Al Tirmithi book which are even older than the last two i posted. But his message it to last till the end of time.

Hemp, I can answer you to my knowledge, only the people who enter Jannah will see the creator, and God has a throne but not a throne like we precieve one to be, anyways thats a matter of fiqh and the best answers come from scholars, those are the people who know this stuff, and God knows best. But everyone will meet their creator just not everyone will see him. By the way I thought you were muslim?

The Prophet said, "Do not lavish praise on me as the Christians have lavished praise on the son of Mary; for I am only a servant. So call me God's servant and messenger."

They (muslims) do this, but if you look closely muslims seem to hold Mohhamed in high regards. You don't see muslims blowing up shit and rioting because of jesus cartoons.

Of course the media should reprint the fucking cartoon. It's news. There's a story to report, and that story is: "Muslims worldwide outraged over cartoon. It is depicted here."

Salman Rushdie had that awful fiction some years back which was misconstrued as hate speech towards muslims. Yet, when you read it, it contains nair statement of what these outraged simpletons said it had. If it had been cited and quoted, people could have easily seen it and nipped it in the fucking bud. But no, it was hushed and subsequently exploded into a drama bomb and the ayatollah put a price on Rushdie's head. Great work.

Stop being a fucking baby and realize that news is reality, and that some reality is unpleasant. Many muslim extremists will pressure the american press into censorship, but nevermind them. Where were they when the Last Temptation came out showing Jesus fucking Mary Magdalene? Did they protest that "obsenity"? No, because they have an agenda. The extremists mind you, not the moderates.

Limit my speech = pissoff.

yes but you also see Christians extremely bending the rules of Christianity

i mean i dont know if according to christianity this is wrong but once my christian friend was over, he grabbed a readers digest with jesus on the cover
n he was like , "hey jesus suck my dick" n put the book to his crotch n moved it back n forth

and that just proves how strict each religion is, and how seriously each one is taken

that was my friend that was preaching Islam
he doesnt check this no more

but ok, how can they see the creator when the people will remain people with eyes, and the Creator is the one that exists without a place, and "anything you imagine God to be, he is other than that"

meaning, God is beyond our limits to see, hear, feel

now i dont know how those angels and prophets received orders from God
but i do know that we are all christed, we are all almost unlimited, we just have gone too far into believing that we are helpless, we depend on technology too much now, alot of stress and alot of conflicts is within our minds

so what if we all dedicated our lives to one thing, such as loving God and preaching God, gotten rid of our egos, and rid our hearts of any kind of hatred or anger,
we would be basically doing the opposite of now, and we will gain those powers/abilites because within our minds we believe we are 100% pure , 100% correct, therefor we enable our bodys to evolve

kind of like the saints, how do the saints do those "feats"?

mind over matter is REAL

yeah i havent slept in a while, and for some reason i always assume people to know what im talking about, so dont worry if some of this doesnt make sense , hopefully sooner or later it will add to the pieces of the puzzle

just take it into consideration

please dont compare christians with muslims...Muslims hold the prophet (s.a.w) in high regards but we do not worship him, theres only one worthy of all praise and that is Allah. The prophet to me and to almost every muslim around the globe is more beloved than mothers, fathers, kids family and themselves. But that is something that people will not understand because they see how Jesus (pbuh) is mocked and disrespected so people think its okay, it might be okay to chrisitians but this isnt ok to muslims. Im the first to say that these acts of vioelnce that occured after the cartoons is absolute non sense and should have never happened. Now for the cartoons that were published those were an attack, or tryna punk muslims so to say, because they served nothing but to hurt the muslims. When it comes to Jesus (pbuh) when Passion of the christ was released a few of the muslim countries banned the movie from playing in cinemas and banned the selling of the DVD, me personally I didnt want to watch it because to me that is insulting to Jesus pbuh. In arabic religous movies when they act out the scenes of other prophets like Jesus, Moses, Abraham (pbut) they were never shown. You dont see muslims going crazy about Jesus pbuh, because people have been mocking him, and this has been going on since before the Quran. And the depiction of Jesus (pbuh) is pretty much part of the Christian faith.
