Second-year running back Frank Gore is a finalist for FedEx NFL Ground Player of the Week honors, while rookie linebacker Manny Lawson is in the running for NFL Rookie of the Week.
GORE carried 29 times for 127 yards and one touchdown in the 49ers’ 20-13 victory over the St. Louis Rams. His touchdown came on a 32-yard, third-quarter run.
Gore is competing against Warrick Dunn of the Atlanta Falcons and Rudi Johnson of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Lawson recorded three tackles, two sacks and two quarterback pressures in the 49ers’ 20-13 win over the St. Louis Rams. Lawson was a key factor in San Francisco’s defense holding the Rams to 185 passing yards on the day. He recorded sacks on the Rams’ opening drives of both the first and third quarters.
Lawson’s competition comes from Colts running back Joseph Addai, Saints wide receiver Marques Colston, Patriots running back Laurence Maroney, and Panthers running back De Angelo Williams.
Voting on NFL.com for the Rookie of the Week began Tuesday at 9AM EST and ends on Thursday at 5PM EST.
