Virginia school sets up mock slave auctions for black kids

It probably seemed logical because it's part of history. Yes, our history is fucked up...but why sugarcoat it? There are some things not included in history books these days because people are too pussy to face reality. The longer you ignore it, the longer it lingers.
I remember everybody being divided up in elementary school to display how bad it feels to be excluded because of how we look. That's not negative at all...it's a valuable lesson.

How was it logical to do similar shit when I was in elementary school? Parents condoned that shit because it made everybody feel the impact of it. I STILL talk to and kick it with folks from that far back, and it's the most diverse and accepting group I've ever known. So did it work? One might believe so.
So what do you teach a kid when you're reading about it in books? The white man auctioned off people of an unknown skin tone? Did the teacher maybe mention that slaves were sold by their own people?

in todays society, sorry..its inappropriate...its apart of history and needs no repeating especially in a classroom environment....i just dont see how a teacher would think this would ok...for some experiment like this, parents/faculty should have been notified prior just to get an idea if people would be ok with the idea...my guess is probably not but instead teachers have to much control to go about their own game plans...stick to the fuckin script..you want to teach the civil war or any part of that era...watch "glory" that movie told it all...
There was once a special on TV about this lady who divided her classroom. It was right after the death of Martin Luther King. She divided the classroom up so that those with blue eyes had special privileges while those with brown eyes did not, then switched it up the next week. The kids learned a lot about racism and to me that was logical.
Had she divided the class up by race, with white kids having the privileges and black/mixed kids having none, would the same message have came across? No. That's essentially what this school teacher did.

I didn't say Africans had slaves...I said Africans took part in the slave trade. Do you think white folks just went to Africa and stole a bunch of people? No, they had help. I was saying Africans sold other Africans to white folks....FACT! The trade would not have been successful without assistance...and that's what I was saying. I also said it "Probably seemed logical"...as in, to the teacher. I can understand what was being done there...but others want to turn it into an immediate race issue.
And I'm not saying the teacher was right or wrong, but we went through similar shit in elementary school and it was never labeled "wrong" or "inappropriate"...and parents didn't throw their arms up in disbelief. Who knows what her lesson plan was for the next week. Do you? I don't. Maybe there would have been a role reversal. Do you know what the teacher TOLD the students? As in, what her lesson to them was? I doubt it. Parents probably heard "slave auction" and the LESSON behind the activity was ignored.

I'm not downplaying that fact at all. I never said they did know what the conditions would have been like. I was simply stating that people are quick to hate white folks when they didn't act alone.
The guy who helped Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold obtain weapons didn't know the two would go on a fuckin' killing spree at their high school. HOWEVER, if he didn't help them out, that incident may have never happened. Doesn't matter if he was ignorant to the end result. See what I'm saying?
