Yeah that type of shit happens ALOT in the mainstream side of the industry. The artist doesnt get full control over THIER OWN album. Its fucked up, and the industry think they "know best" or whatever. I dont think its right to limit the creativity of someones own art, whether it be music, movies, or whatever. The industry should NOT have so much control over someone's life and dreams. Period.

I still say F.T.I.!!!!!

Peace and God bless.

I'm not an artist, and I have nothing against Indy labels. But, if an "artist" wants to make money with his intellectual property, the easiest way is to sign with a distributor. If that distributor is paying you, why should he not get control over some of the content? And yes the industry does "know best" most of the time because it's their industry. Because they have experience. Because they've made success stories happen for artists.

There's lots of exceptions, but usually when an artist gets notorious enough to negotiate for total artistic control with the label its a disaster. Remember when R.E.M. got artistic control from Sony? Michael Stipe decided to go back to his roots and make the music he wanted to? How did those last few albums go over??

If a musician wants to be an artist and struggle to make $, that's great. Good for him. But I'm not ready to criticize those that want to get the $.

Ok, well then how come is it that if the industry "knows best" most of the time, how come Tech hasnt become bigger than he is? How come 99% of the songs on the radio suck? Tech's done just fine having creative control (yes - Im assuming) over his music and look what he's done. Since R.E.M. fucked up, does that mean that EVERY artist should be condemned to it? No. I didnt think so. I'm all for them gettin thier cash too, but if they take full responsibility of the music they put out and it sucks, they cant blame nobody but themselves. Now, on the other hand, the industry puts out garbage material all the time, but they dont take the flack for it, the ARTIST does. So either way its goin to come back on them. Its a gamble....and its still fucked up that they dont get creative control of thier own music.

Peace and God bless.
