The first single from Kelis' new album isn't a sequel to her 2003 smash, but it's close enough.
"It's just another strong kind of girl record —
it's a lot of fun," Kelis said of the tune, called "Bossy." "I don't take myself too seriously. I like to do what I do and get out there and play with people. It's one of those obnoxious things, and people love it or hate it, and that's fine with me."
"Bossy" features an appearance from veteran rapper Too Short ("I love him," Kelis said) while husband Nas also pops up on the album. ("It's kind of explosive — it's a good one," she said. "You'll have to wait for that one.") Otherwise, there are no other guests.
Kelis is shooting the "Bossy" video later this month and releasing the track in January. Her fourth album, The Puppeteer, is due in the spring.
