I had to write this. When PaperTrail brought me on board. The first thing I did was try to connect with other Indies and see if we could come together and create enough of a force to gain momentum. The one thig we had to barter with was our studio. Our producers are excellent. They made mobb shit that is almost non-existent today. Access to mailing list, help passing out fliers, small shit is all we were asking in return. DO you know that most of those companies blew us off becasue they had their own studio. Now.... I am not a hater. But shouldn't you LISTEN to the music before you turn down access to a studio.

It almost seems like we (indies) are all trying to make it, and we have to have so much pride that we are not even thinking about working together. Marketing should be done in mass, snippets/fliers, etc should be handed out in masse. Thing is, everybody is trying to get out the same bucket. I dont think people are pulling each other down, but I think our pride gotta get checked at the door sometimes.

I would have LOVED to have worked with a studio that had technical expertise and manposer...but needed music done.

That being said, the company that was willing to get down the most was a cat named Ray Sav. from Bay Area Records. The guys who put out insane 1, I believe. other than that....

thoughts on the importance for indies working together, or is that just counterproductive?

I never really heard of most of the labels on the siccness before I was on the siccness, just like most everybody on the siccness never heard of us. The labels I am talking about where the ones I was able to research through friends, internet, etc. Bottom line is.... when you don't really have the connections or reputation it is hard to build coalition.

I guess the bigger question is, how can we work together .

There are at least 6 or 7 labels on here. The quality and style of themusic varies for sure. But there has to be a way we can work together. Maybe not. For me, I am finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. SOmetimes the more people you have in the mix, the more sheisty shit can get. We had a financier who was going to help with our project... but we made the call to cut him. We prefer a direct chain of command, influence, etc. But there comes a time when we have to work together.

Our shit is about to drop and it may be a moot point. BUt it seems to me that there are hella opportunities for networkin

Solitary 1, I am Kareem. The Game Warden name is what these bastards in the studio started for the simple reason that I am quick (maybe too quick) to tell somebody their shit is not workin.
But my name is Kareem.

I think the people who heard and reviewed our music can tell you that it is pretty good. But that doesn't mean shit. We could end up selling 400 copies right now the way the game is dry. that's why I have got to figure a way to promote the fuck out of this thing.

I wish there was a way indies could work together. My original overtures weren't really successful. Does anybody have some concrete ways that indies can work together for the good?

Speak on it. I'm all ears.

Game Warden: I think the popular response from most veterans on this board is that you haven't communicated with any of them (me included). That being said, I think most people agree that pride among others is hurting indies but I think you will find alot of people on this site network with each other and give alot of free game.

About your ideas to link up with others, it's cool, but the reality of it is that this business is more and more becoming an exclusive one and most cats are going to be left to manufacturing and distributing thier product the old school way as more and more people are finding themselves without deals.

The game IS fucked up but those with perseverance will survive. established or up and coming, EVERYONE is affected by this current economic climate that we are in.

Either way, welcome to the board and keep doing your thing.
