I had to write this. When PaperTrail brought me on board. The first thing I did was try to connect with other Indies and see if we could come together and create enough of a force to gain momentum. The one thig we had to barter with was our studio. Our producers are excellent. They made mobb shit that is almost non-existent today. Access to mailing list, help passing out fliers, small shit is all we were asking in return. DO you know that most of those companies blew us off becasue they had their own studio. Now.... I am not a hater. But shouldn't you LISTEN to the music before you turn down access to a studio.
It almost seems like we (indies) are all trying to make it, and we have to have so much pride that we are not even thinking about working together. Marketing should be done in mass, snippets/fliers, etc should be handed out in masse. Thing is, everybody is trying to get out the same bucket. I dont think people are pulling each other down, but I think our pride gotta get checked at the door sometimes.
I would have LOVED to have worked with a studio that had technical expertise and manposer...but needed music done.
That being said, the company that was willing to get down the most was a cat named Ray Sav. from Bay Area Records. The guys who put out insane 1, I believe. other than that....
thoughts on the importance for indies working together, or is that just counterproductive?
