It seems a lot of artists now a days that are in the mainstream used to be dope (but that probably isn't a new thought). But anyways, I wanted to share on who I thought had some dope shit even though their street and underground credibility today is SHIT! I notice everyone seems to complain about various artists not being what the used to be, so why not I make a BIG ASS post about it!
Puff Daddy/P. Diddy - Some songs off "No Way Out" made more sense than anything he has out now. The songs off that LP I am about to list are actually hot in the fact that they seem more realistic than most of his pop crap.
Here is a list of slept on songs off "No Way Out" that I am talking about!
"What You Gonna Do?"
"Pain"
"The World is Filled" w/Biggie Smallz & Too $hort
"Young G's" feat. Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z (Diddy's best song in my opinion)
Black Eyed Peas - Before Justin Timberlake or Fergie, BEP made some real hot original material. Their first album was nothing but heat in the sense that they used a live band and not that many mainstream samples. Not to mention a lot of their songs had some militant tones (like what Dead Prez usually brings) but more fun to listen to!
Slept on Songs:
"Movement"
"Be Free"
"What It Is"
"Love Won't Wait"
"Head Bops"
"Positivity"
50 Cent - It used to be just 50 and G Unit before 50 got shot and shit. "The Power of a Dollar" came with mad lyrical shit! Being signed to Slim Shady brought this cat some overrated credit, a little too much if you ask me!
Wu Tang Clan - Wu had some nice lyrics and some bangin beats back in the day. But their last 2 albums were complete garbage and had nothing original. Cappadonna, Ghost, and The RZA still seem to be holding it down on the integrity side, while Method Man is all commercial!
Eminem - This fool and his concepts are getting old! I mean "Infinite" and "The Slim Shady LP" was hot, but after The "Marshall Mathers LP" it became pretty clear that he was eating off his breakthrough album by makind dull repettitive copies. Signing 50 was the best and worst move he could make since 50 is getting more exposure but for stupid reasons like these suburban white kids who listen to Eminem and any artist he puts out (D12 would be nowhere without Slim Shady).
The worst thing is the fact that this bitch thinks he owns rap now. Just because a lot of suburban punk rock white kids buy your rap album don't mean you got real credit. And basically homie sleez said it best himself "Eminem is NOT Gangsta".
Jay-Z - Everything from Reasonable Doubt to Hard Knock Life seemed bangin. I know there are a lot of mixed opinions on this dude, but in my personal opinion he seemed more alive and lyrically organized in his first 3 albums. Now he just seems bored with the stuff he makes, probably cuz he gonna retire soon and has all the cheese so what should he care!
Master P - Remember when he used to rep Richmond with the original No Limit label. Now all of his albums before "Ghetto D" displayed some of that west coast heat! Ghetto D is probably the last good album that P. Miller came with. Everything after that just seems to be feel good and dance club orientated. That same reason is partly why C-Murder landed in jail (he did not like P's transition so he spent more time in the CP3 getting into all sorts of shit).
Ice Cube - Too easy, everyone knows what to say (Amerikkkaz Most Wanted)
Dr. Dre - The Chronic, NWA, and Unreleased Tracks. That's all I have to say!
LL Cool J - Another one too eazy! But some of these songs bang!
"Mama Said Knock U Out" (one of the songs that got me into hip hop)
"Back Seat of My Jeep"
"4 3 2 1"
"Fatty Girl"
"Round The Way Girl"
"The 4 Seasons"
The Fugees/Wyclef Jean - I guess you can say they are way past fallen off but when they came out with shit ahead of their time back in their days. I think it all ended with the album Carnival by Wyclef that these cats started falling off. Wyclef's mad weak now if you ask me!
