To the artists on this board that's been makin music for over 5 years

i do that time and time again... MY songs (from 99-2000) were weak as shit with a few exceptions... for the most part, the raps were tight but the overall songs sound shitty and were terribly produced... i feel like getting rid of every copy of that i have and never acknowledge them ever again... but i listen to my cousins shit from 95-2000 and those are still tight as hell
If you really think about it, a lot of the beats we're hearing nowadays in the mainstream from the newer "producers" are basically the best of their first batch of beats ever.
When I was listening to some of my older shit, it was making me feel like I was ahead of my time or something because some of my older tracks from 5+ years ago sound like they would work in the mainstream RIGHT NOW.
The quality of a lot of the mainstream hip hop music has taken a step backwards because you got these new cats who get on early in their producing career without having the proper time to learn how to put a track together - but it's acceptable now.

man i got some shit that i did in 94 when i started whole albums on the old yamaha analog 8 track with a shure performance mic not even a condencer all the beats were original and the mixing was done by my homie we been doin it eversince yeah we should post up old stuff just to see how the music has changed great thread pz

the thing about new producers and engineers, is they don't know the rules, so they can make new ones...
i remember back in 99 me doin my backup vocals in a higher pitched voice(not killa tay style), and i still do it to this day, and back then cats was like, that sounds funny, now everyone is like, wow that sounds hot...
and my beats back then, shit i hate my beats, but i play them for cats and get offers all day long
one of my least favorite beats i've made from way back, got picked to be on my group album, cus everyone wantd to hear it, now with the snippets, cats go nuts over that beat, and i meet cats i don't know who got the bootleg and say it's one of their favorite songs
