An album a year helps keep quality over quantity and allows time to promote and market each album to the extent it deserves...more than that and the music just gets watered down or the artist isn't choosing the best tracks.

Everything an artist records should not end up on an album just for the sake of putting out as many tracks as possible.

i plan on releasing every track i record on a digital only album but i plan on selecting my fav tracks and putting it out as an official album pressed up and digital. why not put out a track digitally? it doesnt cost much and every track has earning potential. just as long as the sound quality is good. its not like people are downloading the whole album, they just download the songs they like anyways. but to those that still look for great albums............ my pressed up albums would be for them.

Great question. If you can make a living off one album, sure go ahead. However album sales have dropped, which has put artists in a place where if you are indie, it makes sense to drop more rather than less. Its a simple formula called diversification. The more different products you have gives more people the opportunity to buy from a larger selection. Or if they are true fans, they buy more.

The thing is these guys have so much music just sitting around. Why not get cashed out for the stuff you do not think would be on your "target" mainstream album, but is still good stuff.

Hard not to sit back and let these guys do it. Shit, reggae artists have been doing that for YEARS!!!

I prefer balance and not too much. I dig too many artists to be buying an album a month from all of them, so I'm gonna pick and choose and if they start putting out watered down bullshit I'm gonna stop buying overall.

There's a reason artists used to cut tracks from albums and never release em, they didn't make the cut for a reason. I don't mind rappers doing an album or two a year and maybe a few mixtapes as long as they don't expect me to pay 10 bucks on itunes for a mixtape.
