Hey Sik, I know what you mean. I agree with you on what you said. But I used to put my all into my work, until I ran into more than one company saying that it was "a little bit too fancy" that they want a "simple layout". So I said screw it, and I do a basic layout for them with neutral colors, and I've been doing that for many clients who don't give me that creative freedom that I like. They still love my work, but to others who see it probably will think I don't know what the hell I'm doing.
There's one client in particular, he's the main one that kinda trained my way of designing for clients. The first site I did for him, I ended up having over 20 different full site layouts for him. He kept changing his mind after getting feedback from others, and always picked apart everything until he got the site the way he envisioned it. So I guess I can say he was the designer and I was just the program doing the work for him. So from there on, I started doing what the client wants until they are happy with their shit.
Now that I'm starting to do work with some Hip Hop shit, I'm going buckwild with my ideas, and I'm loving it. I still do work for corporate america. But there's no greater feeling then reaching deep within your creative chamber and showing people what you're truly capable of. That's when I really feel like a designer
