Good luck tho, I just don't believe someone would give someone 5 mil who has no buzz or history of record sales. I don't see how this could possibly be profitable. I would think there's a gang of rappers much more famous who will never make $5mil.

been around joey porter a few times. he is a major bay fan. has spent a lot of money on keak to basically hang out. that said, dude is a big bullshitter too. dude would have to spend his entire football salary to pony up 5 million. not take a single dime to the house. lot of artists running around the valley for years 'joey porter say he gonna put up a million for my career' club promoters 'joey porter gonna invest in a club for me' aint none of that shit happened. like floyd mayweather's record company. dude got chains, wrapped vans, etc and aint no artists ever came out.

player, with 5 mill, why would you invest in local producers, unless those local producers have a successfull track record. im not talkin bout beat makers, which most local "producers" are. payin for an actual producer, you have the opptunity to collaberate, and them cats dont want to put no bullshit out. they want that record to smash as much as you do. they have a rep in the industry. you get some local dude who makes beats, just cus hes local, all you got is that beat. and all they want to do is blow up....if you give me 5 mill and i have to get open heart surgery, i want the best in the industry, the ones that proved them selves many times over. i dont want (just) some local dude tryna come up........

as far as marketing, yes sir. a must.

but what about those producers who make songs for kim kardashian and paris hilton...thats what i was thinking of. that shit for sure going to flop. i figure you give more exposure to local cats..every person is different..not all producers do it for the dough, local cats know this because how much can really be made? shit, even producers for big local names like mac dre, nickatina, and whoever else..you think them producers do it for the big bucks they making?

people at the top, timberlands and kanyes..they got money so i will generalize and say that their next beat doesnt have to be "the one" ya know?

local talent, plus marketing COULD go a long way..i'm all for bringing the locals up..theres more of a hunger than the established..sometimes

heart surgery is a totally different sport than rap/hip-hop..but i do understand what your saying..

but how that 5million dollar surgeon get there?

Though I think Timbaland and Kanye are brilliant producers, they aren't the hit makers of today, assuming that's why you mentioned big name producers. The only people I hear about are Lex Luger, Polow, and Drumma Boy. Even then, they aren't making nearly the hits like how former super producers of earlier years did. Shit, there rarely are prevalent producers nowadays.

As long as there is a demand for beats (which there always will be), with the addition of the accessibility of music software out there, it would be the smartest decision to go for the hungrier producer without a name for himself because there is a lot of money to be saved. Why spend a quarter of a million when you can get a perfectly good beat for $200?

The music industry is waning, and is evident being that Wiz Khalifa, the artist that is "that guy" right now, topped rap charts at #1 with less than 200,000 sales.

The game has changed. Executives used to put money aside for certain producers back in the day (Scott Storch, Just Blaze, Neptunez, etc.), but now they are taking advantage of the internet age. You'd be surprised to check recent album notes that feature producers you have know clue who they are.

I see what Cup is saying. It's all strategic, and spending money that might not even get made back is extremely risky, especially in the current state of the industry.

Sorry for the essay, just wanted to give a little of my own insight.

word, but Mac Dre and Nicky aint got 5 mill behind them. when you got that kind of money behind you, your in a whole different position. he has to make that money back. Kanye and Timbo, dont just sell production to any body and everybody....local ones can be hungry, but like i stated, your expected to make this money and then some back, you cant helf step.....

the ones who produced KK and Paris did it for novelty reasons and "thought" itd be a good idea....

im with you as far as bringin locals up, but now the games so flooded, everybody thinks their good enough and every body expects soemthin, everybody thinks their owed somethin. just look at this board through the year sand the topics about radio play. every rapper in the KMEL listening area thinks they deserve to get spins.......rappers aaaaaall think they can rap good. and for the most part think there too many fans, but they were once fans too, yet they're exempt. im with helpin locals, but you need to focus on your self. them locals aint gonna owe that money to the investor....i feel you tho.........marketing we agree on........

the 5 mill surgeon got there by payin dues and doin real good open heart surgerys......
he didnt expect to get a helping hand amongst all the others who think their entitled.........

trust me breh, in high school i purchased nathan but stockton, sac, bay rap. i didnt understand how a mothafucka could walk around with a Wu-Tang c.r.e.a.m. shirt and a NY hat. i was all about supportin the locals, and thats all i did with a couple racks worth of tapes/cd's.........the games so flooded, im not in that mind state no mas.

i only used them as examples......

and your comment on the demand for beats, thats what im saying. aaaaanybody can make beats. doesnt mean they will all be good ones, but anybody can make a beat.....not every body can produce and work with a rapper to make a hit song..........thats basicaly what im sayin......

producer > beat maker

i got you tho.....

It all boils down to the money of it all. $5 million sounds like a lot to the average person, but if he plans on pushing a major album budgeting definitely be considered. That money would go fast with their rates.

All I'm getting at is with the right knowledge and work ethic, what can be achieved with $5 million can be done with about 5% of that, more or less; "a little can go a long way."
