The Bay/dirty south comparison is reeeediculus..........When the south buys albums....The whole south buys albums.Thats a lot of dirty south folkers. The Bay Area is small as fucc when compared to the south. The south sells like crazy cuz theres more people there.Maybe we as artists need to stop pushing our shit so hard in the bay and start pushing hard in other states. Its common sense if you look at the demographic of people and where those many, many people live.We as artists get sprung on our local love we get from the clubs and stations. But that is as far as that love go's for us here in the bay.Theres more people in bigger areas that would love to hear our bay Area artists....Im not sayin dont promote in the bay...What I am saying is dont stop in the bay...reach out further.

in order to move out the bay you gotta lock down your home turf too. the south is an excellent comparison. david banner sold 50,000 cd's in mississippi alone which gave him the money to buy a van and travel the south.......look it up! if baby bash didnt grind in the bay, he couldnt have gone to houston and blown up.... people in the industry check your credentials when you go to other markets.

MOST FOLKS DONT EVEN KNOW WHEN A BAY ARTIST EVEN DROPS AN ALBUM, ITS NOT LIKE ITS ADVERTISED ON THE RADIO OR TV REALLY, YOU HAVE TO GO TO RASPUTANS OR SOME SHIT AND DISCOVER IT ON A FLUKE CUZ UNLESS YOU ON THIS WEBSITE HOW YOU GONNA KNOW WHEN YOUR FAVORITE BAY ARTIST IS DROPPING THERE ALBUM.

I FEEL THE JACK ARTIST AND BANDANAS TATOOES AND TONGUE RINGS WERE BOTH GARBAGE SO THOSE ARE BAD EXAMPLES, JUST WAIT TILL THE BAY ARTISTS GET MORE EXPOSURE ON THE MAINSTREAM THEN THEY'LL SEE A LOT BETTER RECORD SELLS.

BTM......I see what you are sayin with that. However, most down south artists moved those units in their hometown, and maybe a lil bit outside of their town or state but not too much. It's not like the entire south is always united and have the same flavor in music.

But from how I see it, everything north of the bay, and even Sacramento, are on Bay music, and many of them imitate the culture like in Seattle. However, it's many more black people in the south than in the northwest, and more people interested in the rap culture in the south than in that region, so it's a challenge.

think about it, people dont want to waste 15 or 20 of their hard earned dollars on a cd that might not be any good, and the rapper doesnt want to risk putting so much effort into their lyrics and paying for top notch production if he thinks everyone is just gonna download his album, and thats why music is going downhill. i think we need more websites like northernriders.com and 2siccaudio so that we can listen to the albums without bootlegging them and then seperate the bad from the good, that way people would start putting more effort into their music. it seems like almost every album from the mid 90's was fucking amazing compared to alot of the garbage these days, and a big part of it is because you can hear the real instruments and quality production, these days it sounds like everything was made on fruityloops, its kind of sad

I think the abundance of "Why the Bay isn't blowing up" threads are directly contirbuting to the bay not blowing up

You cant really compare the bay and the south though on units sold, because Southern artists from texas through mississippi to Atlanta have a way higher fan base.. What I mean is thAt their are more gansta rap fans and shit in the south, because the south is bigger than the bay

When niggas start making good albums then, we'll go buy they shit. (Not just making one hot song on the radio) I'm talking about an album where you like more than 2 or 3 tracks. Make your sound bigger than the Bay and you can blow out of the Bay. Every body wants support. That sounds too much like Charity. If we like your shit we'll go out and buy it. Straight up. Too many Bay artist have they hand out beggin' for support. Grind. Make a brand for yourself and your label.
well said...there always complaining about the bay making it but all the albums the bay is puttin' out are wack..there trying to promote shitty albums..if they came with some heat besides one good song every now and then the albums would sell...
