Aight, so I am in walgreens today to go pick up some film and stroll down the magazine area as I do on occassion. I pick up XXL and read thru it a bit...little bit of a boring issue to me so I slide over too The Source. I already have my issues bout this magazine ever since this whole Benzino shyt with Em and more.
So I crack it open and 1st of all notice Benzino on damn near every other page in the mag. Yea, I know...he something like part owner there or whatever so I guess it's understandable...but it's much more frequent now. I also notice the mag has decided to leave that little Eminem Cartoon up in the mag once more as well as a new one of Benzino and two other cats eating M&M's and him holding up a white one smiling at it. Amongst all the bullshyt....he also so happens to be the month's Hip Hop Quotable....how 'convenient'.
Anyway...this all disgusts me because the sucka is just over abusing his power there but that aint what really gets me. What yanks my fucken chain is an article that is written titled: THE UNBEARABLE WHITENESS OF EMCEEING and to the left of the article is Eminem dressed as Elvis in a cartoon with a blonde pompadore. Funny picture yes....but as I skimmed thru this article I see certain things that make my stomach turn.
In one of the quotes excerpted from the reading it says something along the lines of how Elvis and Eminem's Career are similar and how they lead a "white trash" lifestyle started doing "black" music and came up off it and pawned it off to other whites. Um.........okay.........wtf? This is the same FUCKEN mag who has been pushing to Mainstream & Corporate America that HIP HOP is a CULTURE & LIFESTYLE w/NO COLOR LINES. It's a way of life and a way of expression in the form of music.
All these years cats like Russell Simmons have fought for Hip Hop thru all the bullshyt that has surrounded it and tried to get the acceptance of Mainstream & Corporate America and now that it seems where so much closer to being there...The Source gets on some Racial Shyt? WTF is goin on with this fucken Mag? Am I the only one getting pretty fucken pissed off about it? Am I, "a Puerto Rican & Mexican Ceo/Artist" supposed to feel comfortable when the BIGGEST MAG in the industry I am in makes comments like this? It makes me feel like a mufucka ain't welcome if he ain't black...they might as well have said that shyt because when you say the shyt they said bout Em & Elvis and them makin money off a black music......that is what they think you and I; "the non black artist/ceo" are doing...only they not sayin it outright.....they only sayin whites.
I can't believe how fucken mad I got when I picked that magazine up. In all my years as a fan and follower of Rap/HIP HOP Music, I can't remember me being so pissed off. We have come so far in this shyt and dealt with too much shyt as a so called 'culture' to have to sit here and read shyt like that in the industry's biggest magazine. Has Eminem shook the game so much to make these closet racists come out they fucken hiding? Has he shook Benzino and the Source so bad that they are left with nothing to do but print Racial BullShyt and Silly DIss Cartoons in their 'used' to be Top Of The Line Mag? WTF?
I forget what comedian said this but check it....this is what I remember this person saying:
"You know times have changed when the world's top rapper is a white guy and the world's top golfer is a black man"
I thought it was funny as hell but very true. Are we as a Rap/Hip Hop Community all fucked up about race again? And am I the only one really trippen off the Sources last couple of month's of bullshyt? Please, I really hope I am not......because this is fucken sad...
Peace.....just food for thought and maybe something to get all of you BART heads thinking.
Right On.
Playa Rae.
