After reading about the Truman Doctrine I realized that this thinking paved the way for much of the conflicts the united states is involved in. It begain in 1947 when greece and turkey were under the threat of communism. The Truman Doctrine was summed up by Truman himself when he said, "I believe that it must be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures." This doctrine expressed the concept of "containment" of a threat. I used to wonder why in the hell the US was taking it upon themselves to bring justice to the world. I just found this information very useful and timely considering the position the United States is in currently.
