I honestly think hyphy was the death of all eyes on the Bay. A little after Mac Dre's passing the Bay embraced the hyphy movement in numbers. Unity? Yes definite, but it turned to saturation & overkill.
When the world / media turned their cameras & mics to the Bay there was no diversity. Everybody wanted to be the next Mac Dre, everybody acted & sounded the same. They put the mic in front of rappers and a lot of rappers dressed & acted like children who had too much sugar in front of the camera.
I understand that to many it was an altered ego, but in interviews they could of conducted themselves in a professional manner. There was no need to be bitter & state, "People been stealing from the Bay for years. Now, it's our turn to eat." Hey, the limelight is on you now, let the past go & display your talent. This is the moment you've been waiting for, no need to bring up anything unless it's about you & what your doing.
Too many people following trends & the latest gimmicks & nobody stepping outside the box & being themselves is what turned the cameras & mics away from the Bay in my humble opinion.
Rappers that I had seen prior to Mac Dre's passing had changed over night. They were now trying real hard to be funny & be the next Mac Dre. There is nothing wrong with change, but as long as you stay yourself. And have it be something that you created for yourself.
My honest opinion about the hyphy movement coming back, or it not really being dead? Is a matter of wishful thinking & refusing to let it go when it's already flat-lined.
And it may still be relevant to some of you and that's all good, but just as long as you have the understanding that the world doesn't care anymore.
Just my harsh 2
