I still think it's sad that it took Lil Jon to bring the bay exposure, and as far as i'm concerned, the hyphy movement is pop bullshit orchestrated and paying the bills of some non-regional goofball with a stupid catchphrase. Hyphy is music for clubs, clubs are for bitches, and who gives a flying fuck what a bitch wants to listen too?
Y'all keep putting money in lil jon's pocket and listening to pop music.
We don't need you.

You have some great points, but burning albums is negativley affecting artists all over the country, not strictly the Bay. Record sales in general are down, with only 4 rap acts going gold this year ( I count Wayne cuz he came out in December ).

The main point of my thread was actually directed at the members of this forum becuase there are so many people saying what this rapper should have or shouldnt have done, and in the end if they do blow up, they get hated on.

People on this site stay hating on E-40 & Bash for no reason other than jealousy. Even now that Keak has a name for himself, you see way more hate for him on here now than even a year ago.

I agree with Drunkenfool, but it's what both of ya'll saying combined. It's not just one thing that's bringing us down. It's a combination of what both ya'll is saying.

For 2006 I've only purchased bay shit. T.I. had a hard album, true I wanted to buy it, but instead I went and bought Champ Bailey. Not dissappointed at all with my decision either. T.I. gets enough support from the rest of the world. My $12 bucks went to Bailey, and to Quinn, and to 40, The Team, Bully's Wit Fullys, Beeda Weeda, and more. Not dissappointed at all. I'm supporting my region. Which is the bay first.....everything else gets bought after that. If I don't like shit, no need to speak on it. I can't tell you what to do with your $12 bucks. I can only tell you what I did with mine.

Too Many people can't make up there fucking minds.

E-40 FINALLY gets mainstream love, now 50% of the people on this board hate him for it. Half of these niggas saying he don't show enough respect to Mac Dre, but when he DOES pay homage to dre, they say he's hating.

40's new single is pop-friendly, but he already put out "Tell Me When To Go". He went and put Keak Da Sneak of all people on this record, giving him more exposure this year than in his whole career. The video also had Bay niggas in it that you will never see on TV without 40.

The same things would happen if Keak, Big Rich, Federation or any of these other dudes made it big. You guys would just find reasons to hate.

Can't you fuckers just be happy that 40's got a gold album out there? He even gave Keak exposure, and he didn't have to do it.

You guys need to support your own artists because if you don't, these rappers aren't even gonna make records anymore.
Real talk...The Bay loves to cry "we ain't gettin shit" and once we start to it switches to "they ain't doin the way ______ would". Fuck faces ain't never satisfied. But I think this will change in do time as long as the artist keep pushin their music and not listening to this bullshit on here.

Huh???? I'm sure there is information somewhere that states females buy more albums then us dudes. I'm sure you been to a chick's house and looked through her CD's and found a CD you probably couldn't find anywhere else (I don't know then again maybe you haven't?) Lil Jon gets support from me cuz he was only one that seen what was going on & took a chance by getting behind the bay. He could of easily sponged the game and put it out there as if it came from him (like Jazze Pha does) but he didn't.

I do feel you though on the pop shit and making it look like a fad shit though. Hyphy is street but them people in the suburbs is catching on to it and making it look like a fad cuz it's new to them.

I don't see why cats hating on E-40. That mutha fucker is a pioneer, just like Dre and tha many that came before or after. I feel tha industry ain't giving that man the respect he deserve. And if nigga from tha area he from ain't doing it I can see why. But beyond that tha real reason this shit ain't blowing up like it should is marketing. Even though we the gate starters of this indie shit, we only killed it from one side. The rest of these cats be out marketing the hell out of they garbage and get that shit off. To many of us think mutha fuckers owe us something so we sit on our asses and expect tha masses to come flocking to us. That bull shit, we need to get off our own dicks and make this shit happen.

Bay support...Support from Siccness.net - MEANINGLESS.

Radio / Airplay OUTSIDE of the bay, MTV/BET support, large underground followings - MEANINGFUL.

E40's album isn't selling too great because people *dont like it*. Yung Joc outsold the entire bay by himself because his songs are CATCHY, and people request it. People have not jumped all over E40 because his latest shit wasn't all that great, and his *singles* for this albumespecially were not that great. "U and Dat" was coo, it wasn't spectacular. "Tell Me When To Go" might have done OK by itself if E40 and crew didn't try to spring a whole new hip-hop dictionary on an audience that really didn't give a shit in the first place.

People learn / use slang when they think it's cool and when there is a *very* popular artist or song behind it. Hyphy fits *neither* of those two criteria.

In addition, trying to teach people 5,000 slang words they will never use = a fomula for failure.

Trying to ride the crunk coattails, saying you are "just like crunk" when you ARENT = formula for failure.

Crunk = one word, easy concept.

Hyphy = scraper stunna shades go dumb thizz shababalaboopy. People look at this and go "what the fuck."

The Bay is not the new New York or ATL because people on www.siccness.net don't jock E40, and the Bay is not the new New York, Houston, or ATL because people are burning CDs.

The Bay is where it is because people ARENT BUYING THE ALBUMS. They don't buy the albums because the music is NOTHING SPECTACULAR. Throw in the added "lemme teach you some slanguage, dancing, culture, and history", and people get turned off to it altogether.

Damn, I've seen a lot of good points, along with the few usual ignorant ones.

As far as what's on the surface, many of y'all are very correct. But beneath that, meaning the record company politics and realizing what REALLY makes a region or artist sell is one of the major reasons the Bay isn't bigger.

For one....I can see why many people in the Bay may think Hyphy is bland, too trendy, or whatever else....but these people don't realize that it is the ONLY, and I mean ONLY thing right now that the Bay or West Coast has that is going to really catch ears outside of the West, mainly because it is club music...and club music is a lot more easy to relate to than Bay Mob, or L.A./Diego gangbang music.

The Bay did get major promotion with the Hyphy movement, and it has received more attention than anything on the West Coast since 2000. At the same time, E-40 is the ONLY one who came out during this time, and Too Short just dropped but barely got promoted nationwide! What does this mean? ONE artist can NOT possibly bring back an ENTIRE STATE, region, or city/area. Why is the south strong? Because they've had a rotation of 40-50 artists to get radio play since 98, and because they have 4-5 STATES pushing music. So for anybody to think the Bay or the West has a chance to eclipse this from just one big single and artist is highly mistaken.

Now IF the Bay was able to have 4-5 artist to have nationwide play at one time....with 1-2 being legends (Too Short, 40), 1-2 being brand new to the rest of the nation (Federation, Mistah FAB), and 1-2 making a legit comeback (Yukmouth)...and with each of them having songs that are hyphy, but not TOO trendy to where it will burn out quick, AND with them all dropping albums in a 6 month period that got pushed everywhere...then The Bay would have a greater chance.

God damn another one of these threads, could it be possible that alot of people around the country don't like E-40? Yes kids its possible. I know alot of people on here that didn't like "tell me when to go" at first but it grew on alot of bay cats just cuz its 40. We have 40 and Short on the nationwide radar and thats about it. How you expect 2 guys who are having their second winds in the biz blow up a region by themselves. There are hella cats from like ATL and New York that are mainstream mainstays, what d you expect

I definitley agree with that. 40's just not appealing to other areas like he is here. But the fact of the matter is that he has one of the highest selling Bay albums in 5 years, and the 6th or 7th highest selling rap album of 2006.

I don't think people expect 40 to do it himself. There is only so much 1 man can do. However, being all over the TV does bring attention to the Bay in a postitive way, and while not everyone is gonna like it, some people will. Rap music becomes popular nowadays because of forcefeeding. In the mainstream at least. Once more people get out there, for example The Federation, we will have a better shot.
