Inside, they naturally say it's a non-issue. Riley is The Guy. Myers provides a new perspective on player evaluations and contract negotiations. West is an important advisor -- "He's a sounding board, that's the way I will use him," Riley said -- and will also be investing time outside of basketball operations. Kirk Lacob, a year out of Stanford, is, his father has said, on the bottom rung and reports to Riley. It's all so clear. But around the league? NBA.com

One veteran executive was asked where he would go with a trade proposal. He paused, shrugged and said, "That's a good question." A long-time agent termed the reconstructed front office "A two-headed monster," ... meaning Riley and West. "It's a valid question," Riley conceded. So the Warriors' issue is more than just public perception. Teams and agents not getting the answer they want from one member of management will almost certainly call another in hopes of a different response. NBA.com

Lacob and Guber have thus far gotten most of the details right -- aside from Lacob's ill-advised attempt to define "real fans" -- even if there are questions about hiring Jackson, who has no experience as a coach. "I have a good feeling about it," says team ambassador Al Attles, who in 1975 coached the Warriors to their only NBA championship. "Mark really, really has everything under control. Jackson, immediately becomes the face of the franchise. Though West, arguably the best GM in NBA history, provides counsel, while Riley and Myers preside over personnel, Jackson is the hood ornament. How realistic is it in your mind that Monta Ellis will be traded? -LACOB: I don’t think he will be. I mean, you want me to give odds now? There’s a tremendous amount of speculation in the press, and I can’t believe where all this is coming from… because the stories are completely fabricated, by you or whoever. I don’t know who’s fabricating them. They’re fabrications, complete and utter. All these teams that supposedly have talked to us. It’s not true. It’s just not true. San Jose Mercury-News

LACOB: I’m not saying we haven’t had any discussions, we have. But it’s nothing like what’s being reported. We all really like Monta Ellis a lot. We think he’s a great player. The question will be, like with every other player on the team–is there someone we think makes more sense, that could be better, make us a better team? San Jose Mercury-News

Warriors execs have apparently been told that Ellis would like to stay in the Bay Area, but that if they’re going to trade him, he’s looking to go to a contending team that might be a great scorer away from a title run. San Jose Mercury-News

I’m told Chicago very much is at the top of that theoretical Ellis list, though it’s obvious that the Warriors are not limiting their discussions to just one or two teams. San Jose Mercury-News

Count coach Mark Jackson as one guy in the Warriors' organization who openly wants scoring dynamo Monta Ellis back with Golden State next season. Warriors officials continued to say Friday that they're discussing possible trades for Ellis, though they're not actively "shopping" him and haven't come close to accepting an offer. The Warriors certainly aren't getting Howard or James in an Ellis swap, and some sources don't think the smallish guard can net even a player like Philadelphia's Andre Iguodala, Memphis' Rudy Gay or Portland's Wesley Matthews. San Francisco Chronicle

Jackson made it clear that he hopes the trade talks cease. "That is something we'll talk about all together," Jackson said in a side session after his introductory news conference. "I want Monta Ellis on this basketball team. With that being said, if they trade Monta Ellis for Dwight Howard or LeBron James, I'll be OK." San Francisco Chronicle

Maybe he said it best when he projected, "The Bay Area will never be the same." Then again, he might have said it even better once he got rolling. "I don't really care what happened before we met," Jackson said. "I can tell you what's going to happen moving forward. We're not going to accept mediocrity, we're going to hold each other to a higher standard, we're going to be professionals, and we're going to have a lot of fun.
