Does it really matter? Marco wasn't going to play because of the emergence of Morrow and the drafting of Curry. Yeah, I wish they had gotten something more then George but i don't think we'll be missing the swarthy bellinili.

I don't think it's a contract situation.

The Warriors cleared up some of the gluttony in the backcourt. I just confirmed through a team source that Marco Belinelli has indeed been traded to Toronto for swingman Devean George, as Yahoo Sports reported earlier.

The Warriors severed ties with their first-round pick from 2007 (No. 18 overall). This doesn’t appear to be a cost-cutting move, as Belinelli is set to make $1.5M this season and Devean George is set to make $1.6M. The Warriors, however, would have had to make a tough decision come the end of this offseason. The Warriors had until Oct. 31 to pick-up their option on Belinelli’s fourth season for $2.38M. They avoided that decision, and any backlash, by shipping Belinelli - a fan favorite - now for George. If they didn’t pick up his option, Belinelli certainly would’ve been unhappy all season, increasing the potential for distraction and potentially hurting team chemistry.
The Warriors did pick up a veteran swingman who can stick a 3-pointer. George is no Pietrus, but he could (if he has anything left) give them some veteran help off the bench, something GM Larry Riley has said he wanted to add this offseason.
The Warriors cap figure stands at $57.66M, and that includes the team options for Brandan Wright ($3.4M), Acie Law ($2.9M) and Anthony Randolph ($1.9M).
Belinelli was rendered a luxury by the addition of guard Stephen Curry and the continued progress of shooting guard Anthony Morrow. Though he was one of the team’s better shooters and their best option at defending point guards, Belinelli had clearly fallen down the depth chart. He became a starter for an injury-plagued team but injured himself (sprained ankle) in January and never seemed to recover.

If you want proof that Anthony Morrow is a big part of the Warriors' plans, consider for a moment that they just sent away they guy he was supposed to compete against for minutes.

The Warriors traded shooting guard Marco Belinelli to the Toronto Raptors for small forward Devean George and cash considerations. The deal will be announced on Thursday, according to a source.

The cash considerations are that the Raptors will pick up most of George's contract, worth $1.6 million in 2009-10. To that extent, George will be helpful to the Warriors even if he never plays a game for them. It certainly goes further in explaining why the Warriors would give up on Belinelli, just 23.

George played 43 games last year for the Mavericks and averaged 3.4 points per game. He shot 38 percent from the field, including 29 percent from 3-point range.

He ended up in Toronto as part of the sign-and-trade that sent Hedo Turkoglu to Toronto and Shawn Marion to the Mavericks.

Belinelli is likely going to get more of a chance to play in Toronto than he got in Golden State under Don Nelson. Belinelli played sparingly as a rookie, then received inconsistent minutes during an injury-plagued 2008-09.

He averaged 13.4 points per game when he got 20 or more minutes, but there were also 15 times when Belinelli took a DNP-CD. Depending on how Toronto's backcourt shakes out, Belinelli could be in the starting two-guard mix along with Antoine Wright and Jarrett Jack.

Mostly, the move is a vote of confidence for Morrow, who led the league in 3-point shooting (and set the scoring record earlier this month in summer league) despite going undrafted out of Georgia Tech. Between Morrow and rookie Stephen Curry, it was hard to see any kind of meaningful role for Belinelli.
warriors are tryna dump as much salary as they can, there is also reports that the warriors will only carry 14 on their roster instead of 15

good move

Ellis > bellinelli
Morrow > bellinelli
Curry > bellinelli

george will come cheap and we can use him at the 2/3 positions mainly at the 3. backup backup tho.

bellinelli had no room on this team to play and is better off else where and morrow needs playing time.

not mad at this one bit.

its funny how yall mad we got rid of bellinelli, what the fuck has he done ever? the highlight of his career is his rookie summer league.

not to mention george has several years of experience on playoff heavy championship caliber teams, which none of what bellinelli brought.

at first my problem was i just didnt get why they did this, but marcus thompson broke it down, and it makes sense for the most part. Hopefully it means Morrow gets major minutes and im willing to have Devean George not play much for that. Carrying 14 players is legit for the W's, if they stay healthy. Towards the end of the year last year they had to run an 8 man team, barely. Several games in a row their league-required minimum 8th man was Rob Kurz. with the flu.

Of course i'll be jealous if the Raptors are able to pull off this Euroleague team (minus Chris Bosh), and Bellinelli balls outta control, but he could also be a Patrick O'Bryant (who the Raptors had last season, hes not worth the google search to see if he's still with hem)

Morrow is better than bellinelli........Thats why we did it......Toronto is trying to make an international team to sell more tickets.......Belinelli will be happy over their with a fellow italian and turkolou (sp).......Its good for everyone involved.....Goerge will be a nice veteran addition for us....Him and maggatte will do some real damage off the bench.......We are getting deeper.......This will be a winning year....I say we get in the playoffs at a 6 or better......
