Anthony Randolph, the Golden State Warriors' 20-year-old forward, has been invited to compete in USA Basketball's minicamp next week in Las Vegas, according to league sources.

Randolph is one of more than two dozen young players who have been asked to participate in the camp, which is used to identify possible candidates for Team USA's 2010 world championship team.

Randolph, who averaged 7.9 points as a rookie last season, is currently in Las Vegas dominating summer league action. He's averaging a league-high 26.8 points and on Tuesday, he tied a Vegas summer league record by scoring 42.

Free agents David Lee of New York and Glen Davis of Boston were among those asked to participate, but they will pull out of the competition since they have yet to sign contracts.

The U.S. team will practice July 23-24 and play an intersquad scrimmage on July 25.
Damn, that's fuckin huge right there.

AOL Fanhouse:

The Orlando Magic are close to signing free agent point guard C.J. Watson, giving them an alternative to veteran Anthony Johnson as a backup to often-injured Jameer Nelson...

According to NBA sources, Watson could be signed as early as this weekend. Watson last season averaged 9.5 points and 2.7 assists, mostly as a backup for the Warriors. Golden State would have seven days to match any offer, since Watson is a restricted free agent.

Minicamp roster filling out for VegasComment Email Print Share By Chris Sheridan

Unsettled contract situations will keep David Lee, Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge and Glen "Big Baby" Davis from taking part in Team USA's minicamp in Las Vegas next week.

The tentative roster now stands at 23 after invitations were extended to Anthony Randolph of Golden State and Eric Gordon of the Los Angeles Clippers.

The team will assemble Wednesday with coach Mike Krzyzewski, who has agreed to coach Team USA at the 2010 World Championship in Turkey and the 2012 Olympics in London, and will practice Thursday and Friday under the direction of Toronto Raptors coach Jay Triano before holding a public scrimmage Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack Center.

As of Friday, the other camp attendees are Trevor Ariza (Houston), D.J. Augustin (Charlotte) Jerryd Bayless (Portland), Ronnie Brewer, Kyle Korver and Paul Millsap (Utah), Kevin Durant, Jeff Green and Russell Westbrook (Oklahoma City), Rudy Gay and O.J. Mayo (Memphis), Danny Granger (Indiana), Blake Griffin (L.A. Clippers), Devin Harris and Brook Lopez (New Jersey), Andre Iguodala and Thaddeus Young (Philadelphia), Kevin Love (Minnesota), Greg Oden (Portland), Derrick Rose (Chicago) and Josh Smith (Atlanta).

Team USA director Jerry Colangelo told ESPN.com earlier this year that he has received verbal commitments in February from all eight core members of the Beijing Olympic team -- LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and Deron Williams -- to play for the U.S. next summer in Turkey.

If those commitments hold, the 23 players in Las Vegas will be competing for the final four spots in the 12-man roster -- and the current economic climate will effectively squeeze away any chance of going to Turkey for the four withdrawing players. Lee and Davis are restricted free agents and remain unsigned, while Roy and Aldridge are eligible for lucrative contract extensions from the Trail Blazers later this summer. Additionally, Kendrick Perkins and Rajon Rondo of Boston have declined invitations due to the timing of Perkins' upcoming wedding.

FIBA's World Championship, the equivalent of soccer's World Cup, has not been won by the United States since 1994 when the so-called Dream Team II was anchored by Shaquille O'Neal, Reggie Miller and Dominique Wilkins.

The U.S. finished third in Athens in 1998 (when the NBA lockout kept pro players from competing), sixth in Indianapolis in 2002 and third in Saitama, Japan, in 2006.

Randolph has a good chance to make the team out of those players becuase they can use a backup 4/5 player and with his ability to score as well as defend and rebound. his biggest competition will be blake griffen and odom and brook lopez. maybe durant but he is more of a 3

based on these players (LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and Deron Williams), i'd probably take rose, durant, granger and probably milsap. Milsap cause they definitely need another "big" man and he can do the dirty work though randolph would be intriguing with his length and versatility.

so...here me out

The Warriors do not need to make any trades or sign any free agents

What's our two biggest problems?
Rebounding and Interior Defense

We ranked 14th in Defensive Rebounding last year...3 boards a game away from the #1 spot...
for the last stretch of the season AR was (if memory serves me correctly) averaging 11 boards a game , which is five more then Jack was getting playing the 3-4 position...that puts us towards the top in Defensive Rebounds
now our opponents got more Offensive boards against us then they did any team in the NBA last season...but with Randolph playing 30 minutes a game and adding 2 blocks and 4 offensive boards a game...they're not going to get those second chance shots this season

Curry WILL BE A STARTER...I remember being at the airport bar and watching the Davidson game and being freaked out by this short kid(curry) dominating top tier schools...one of the best passers i've seen(knight knows what the fuck he's talking about) he's got great stealing abilities...I'll be ecstatic if he puts up 10ppg but what he'll add to the team is going to be a godsend

We’d be crazy to trade Maggette away, he puts up 18 a game with a crazy FG% and 5 boards a night OFF THE BENCH!!! He’s always going to put other teams in foul trouble every single night…he’s one of the best sixth men there is in the NBA and it’s about the only smart thing Nelson did last year(to have him come off the bench)

Biedrins is going to put up his usual double double a night, but this season we’ll see him add another two boards a night (13?) with the help of Randolph’s crazy arms and athleticism… add to that Wright coming off the bench for a few each night…we have a seriously solid defensive squad

Monta had an off season last year on D, and it wasn’t even bad…he’s going to wreck shop this year…we’ll have the top stealing guard tandem in the NBA(mark my words)

So we won’t have a traditional PG right away, though I think you’ll all be surprised at how well Curry will do on the offensive side of it…

Every night we go in with
Curry/Ellis sharing the PG/SG duties
Jack gets to move to his natural spot at SF
Randolph will have a break through year at PF(12-15ppg 8-9 boards 1.5 blocks)
And Biedrins is already considered a top5 or so Center and he’s gonna add two more boards a game to his stats

With Maggette, Wright, Morrow and AB off the bench…we’re great

We won’t make the playoffs this year, but we wouldn’t even if we got Stoudamire
If sometime in the season we can package a trade with Biedrins and whoever for a beefier center, we should…I love Biedrins and think he’s one of the best centers in the league, but we do need someone with a bigger body…

If Nelson lets the young guys play early in the season, we do have the potential to be in the wild card chase…so it’s really up to how patient he’ll be this year with AR and Curry

Curry's not starting this year unless Monta gets hurt or traded, lol

Even if Monta does get hurt Nellie will the shift the hell out of that lineup so that he DOESN'T have to give Curry starters minutes. Remember, Nelson's not big on Rookies. The only reason Morrow got as much burn as he did last year is because he was lights out in practice and forced Nelson's hand. Now, that's at SG ... PG is a completely different situation. Especially when you consider Curry is a scoring PG

Whoever says get rid of Maggette is trippin. Every team needs a cat like that comin off the bench

You're right they should keep Maggette. The team is desperatley lacking scorers and he's getting paid more than he's worth which makes him even better!!

Maggette's not as perimeter as everyone else on the team and he provides a change of pace when he enters the game, that's why he works for GS. The only point of contention would be if he could stay healthy. But that goes for anybody.

And like Moe said, he gets you 6 boards off the bench from the 3 spot and puts the other team in the penalty because he gets calls. I didn't check the numbers, but I'd say he actually gets more calls than Captain drive-the-ball-into-traffic-for-a-turnover-then-complain-he-got-fouled ... Uh, I mean Stephen Jackson

19 & 6 says different ... Being a needy ballhog is his role, lol

Again, you're not taking his impact on THE OTHER TEAM into consideration. This shit is chess not checkers!! :lick:

maggette is cool. his role is to come off the bench and score, and he does that very effiecently. he could pass a lil more but so should everyone else. curry might not start every game but i think he will start around 30 games. not at first but about a month or so into the season. he will average around 20 mpg as a rookie, at least. that article doesnt even mention turiaf.

Ellis/Curry
Jax/Ellis/Morrow
Azubuike/Maggette/Jax
Randolph/Maggette/Wright
Biedrnis/Turiaf

morrow can probably play the 3 if he had to.thats a 10 man rotation. most teams got 8.

bellinelli and watson need to bounce cus they aint gettin no PT. I woulndt be suprised to see wright get some PT early and get his trade value up then us trade him for a future 1st to some team needing an athletic 4. say um charlotte, lol.
