Well damn, I was just thinking 'finally a ref that doesnt give out cards for every minor incident or faul'.
Then he gives out this yellow card to Robben for hands.
Come on now!

nice goal by Robben, bad defending they should always have known he was going to cut back inside and shoot on his left.

Not much cohesion from the dutch and they are sitting back a bit. I'm not sure 1 goal will be enough.

Walk in the park for Holland. Well done. Good to see Robben back, what a typical Robben goal he did. Holland - Brazil will be dope to watch. I cant see Chile beating them.

not overly impressive for the dutch, slovakia missed some crucial chances.

wasn't happy with sneijder going for glory when he had like 4 players in support and 2 making runs into the area. can't play like this against brazil.....

RvP crying he got subbed... cmon what the fuck you had a shit game take it like a man and walk of the fucking field.

I will be dissapointed if holland don't win this cup, so much talent and they have waited a long time, this group of players have what it takes to go all the way.

^^^i agree holland deserves to win it all...still think brazil will do what they do best...win.

im rooting for ghana or japan to pull of a cinderella story

question: is it fair to say that brazil, argentina, and mexico have comparable soccer fanaticism, population size, and economies (their population sizes and economies are the top 3 in latin america right?)?........so why the hell do brazil and argentina win....and mexico cant?!?!? what are the theories out there? i drank myself to sleep by 5pm yesterday. woke up and am still feeling bummed

I think alot of countries are exactly the same in terms of how much they love and support the game, but to answer your question, I think it comes down to a number of things that is the difference. One being the leagues are on different levels and they produce a greater number of superstars, two being the qualification process, Brazil/Argentina play tougher opponents, Mexico has the USA only. Those are just two examples.

did I just see papa shango
pretty sure you're referring to the african person in the stands of the usa ghana game with the colorful face paint and the indigenous type facial gesture when the camera zoomed in on him after the 2nd ghana goal.

i was at a fully packed bar watching that game, and all of a sudden americans cared about soccer and had their red white and blue colors and "USA!!!" chants going on. when espn showed papa shango (and in slow mo of course) the bar went from being dead (cause of the extra time ghana goal) to an uproar of middle fingers at the tv screen and screams of "FUCK YOU!!!! USA!!!!" it was hilarious. i know what word some people wanted to yell out, but as far as i could hear, they all refrianed from saying it.

then the game ended, people started heading out, and the guy next to me who with his buddies had been yelling "USA!!" all game, looks to his friends and says "fuck that. when does football season start so we win at a real sport?" and they all laugh and agree. i was actually impressed by the energy of the crowd and thought to myself "shit. americans really are coming around for soccer." these guys reminded me of the reality that 3/4 of the people packed into that bar thought soccer was gay 1 week ago..so fuck em.

The England goal is a extreme case if you got a ref watching the goal line then that would be spotted instant.

For offsides that would never work (the cam). There are to many scenarios for it to fail then to actually be to any help.
You wont catch it on the first that means you have to watch a replay, rewinding a tape and watching it it's not a 5-10 seconds it's at least gone be 50 seconds minimum.

What if and how are you gone handle i.e a situation if the ref calls offside and it wasn't? Are they gone use the cam for all offside situations? That's def gone fuck up the flow. If not all and the ref gone say when to then thats the same as it is now, the possibility of human error is still there.

I think having cams "can" take away the offside problem but create a minimum of 4 others, so i rather have the offside then the others.

I don't know thats just some thoughts I got on it and the way I see it.
I see what you're saying, but if it's set for only big calls, i.e. the Argentina goal, that can all be settled while they're celebrating. I would be against it being used to overturn a no call, that would definitely fuck up the game more then help it. But just saying, for the controversial goals, or offsides that lead to goals, there's no reason not to use it.

good half of football.

Great teamwork by Brazil, this is how the game is meant to be played. Robinho to Kaka to Fabiano, goal. This is how you play a fluid counter attack, compare this to the earlier game where I meantioned Sneijder having 4 players in support and opting to go himself for the glory, this will be the difference if Holland and other teams don't learn from this.

Chile still have a goal or two in them though, they have been getting some sick supply from midfield its just that last pass that has been lacking.

Both Brazil and Holland have really good players but neither work as a team really.
But Holland never really has a killer mentality. Once they do I think they can go a long way.
But if they don't I am afraid it will be the same old story...
