^^They just said he tore a ischiatic nerve in his back. Italy never ever plays beautiful football, but they sure as hell are effective with their defensive philosophy. I wouldn't be surprised if they make it quite far this year, although i can't fucking stand them (their football team, not the country)

no team has played attractive football so far besides Germany. Argentina maybe, the goalie they were up against was a brick wall.

its the world cup. at least you're not seeing as many 4-5-1 set ups as you have in the past. i think italy pushed it forward more then i expected them too.

lippi fucked up by not choosing a lot of players. totti, cassano, miccoli, balotelli, giovinco, etc. gilardino is not going to get it done playing alone up front thats for sure... a kid like balotelli (who i am definitely not a fan of but can't deny his ability) could have lit that game up. lippi was too conservative with his call ups and favored juve players because of his ties to the club, most of which shouldn't be there. cannavaro, iaquinta, and camo all shoudln't be there. take those three out and put in bonucci, cassano, balotelli, and they would have probably won today.

so far this has been a boring WC.... and germans always win the boring WC's :)

what about Antonio Di Natale? And wait for tomorrow. Some promising games coming up. Brazil enters the tournament against North Korea and Portugal plays the Ivory Coast. And Spain hasn't even played yet. This WC has just begun, once the weaker teams are gone its gonna get really interesting !

NK v Brazil looks to be entertaining, NK is very confident they will beat the number 1 ranked team in the world for their dear leader....

''Their talent and quality will be shown tomorrow and this will bring great happiness to our leader Kim Jong-Il and show that people of Korea DPR have a strong mentality. Of course Brazil are a strong team, they are a perennial favourite. But we have a strong mentality and that is why I think we will prevail.''

I like Di Natale over Gila, only because Di Natale scored so many goals this season but I don't like him as a lone striker.

@Mike - I would have to agree with Carragher a bit. Obviously Germany deserved all those goals... but they played with the ball the whole season. I don't understand why other leagues wouldn't use the ball, I heard it was offerered to all major leagues... so maybe Germany is just smarter then the rest of them :)

They started to use the ball in February. Not the whole season. And there was nobody complaining, but now I might know, why Hamburg played so bad in the second half of the season!

Blame it on the Ball!

Everybody got the ball in February!

Schaikvan said the Jabulani ball was supplied to all countries in February and had been used extensively in Germany's Bundesliga as well as by France and Argentina - who are sponsored by Adidas - and other leagues such as Austria, Switzerland, Portugal and United States.
The ball was also tested by Chelsea, Real Madrid and AC Milan. Schaikvan said there had been no complaints but conceded that altitude in South Africa was undoubtedly a factor.

Adidas also had a workshop for World Cup coaches in Sun City in February.

"We presented the technology and underlined the requirement to get used to it because it is a different ball and a different technology," Schaikvan said. "At the same time we also supplied all the federations with the balls."
