i usually dont even comment on stuff like this because there is never a clear "answer" but ill keep it real on this one. It wont stop until people get some some confidence in themselves. If "everybody" is selling drugs, then the kids that are watching are going to have to somehow realize that ish aint cool. There are all kinds of "stop the violence" and whatever type campaigns going on, but at the end of the day its gonna be on the individual to realize that there is more to life than their neighboorhood. Hella hard to do but yup, it can be done.
My pops was from Caprini Green projects in Chicago. Got a felony for B & E, but realized that where he was going wasnt a good place to wind up at. So HIS solution (and im not recommending it, just follow along lol) was join military and get the hell up outta Chicago.
And thats what it takes, to realize that street life aint poppin and that most of the stuff people get killed over is petty. Mom and Pops made sure that they informed us of the street life and why it leads to prison or the grave. I dont have any felonies and never been in trouble with the law and the rest of my bros and sisters have done the same. If my pops would have never "snapped" out of that mentality, FOR SURE i would have been doin the same ish he was doing or worse.
I cant really speak on how it feels to not have a dad (must suck not to) but at the same time I wish people would not use it as a crutch so much. I know, I know, who are the kids supposed to look up to if the only figures around are dope dealers n ish? I cant even answer that one. And thats just it, I think we can only hope that the future generations "snap" out of it like my pops did and see the big picture (even though i know thats hard) and put their kids on the right path. If no parental figure, then I personally believe that there are other "role models" or whatever. Matter fact, I cant even say I had a "role model" lol. Yup I have dad but me and him are totally different people. Dads are good for the child rearing and the other things a male brings into a family situation, but at the end of the day its gonna be on the individual to make the choice.
I also feel there is a lack of self-confidence in the black community, which is one of the main reasons niggas dont even try to do good in school or really believe that they could be president or an astronaut or a doctor. YOU CAN BE WHATEVER YOU WANT TO BE. like seriously. If "they" (whoever that is) put barriers in your way, go around them. Most niggas dont want to do that though because its "too much work". Trust me, it isnt that hard! I know for sure my 9-5 makes at least, if not MORE than your average D-boy and I look just like that dude on the corner holdin it down. I got the same whip, same clothes, smoke the same tree (probably better lol), and im all legit. but id be considered a "square" right? SMH...
"but them white folks and "them" still look at you as a nigger and u will always be a nigger to them skmagnum!" guess what? I dont give a shit. I have accepted the fact that no matter what ill still be looked at as 2nd class. but you know what? Id rather be that "nigger" in a benz instead of just bein that "nigger". Ill go ahead and be a "nigger doctor" as long as you call me doctor and pay me my cheese.
I guess at the end of all this ish, all i can say is its gonna be on the individual to change. I could do all the outreach to the youth and volunteer at the Omega all i want, but if the person doesnt have that "oh!" moment, then I dont know what to say.
