I am saying the majority of students were African american because these students had higher truancy rates, teen-pregnancy rates, juvenile convictions and lower test scores when compared to other races (Latinos may have been worse in one or two categories.) For students who have been removed from Bethel, Vallejo, or Hogan, the options (besides moving out the district) are Peoples, The Skill Center, Vallejo Adult, and Home Schooling.

OK well, the Turf Politishunz have a different view towards the Hyphy Movement. Though we embrace it and love that fact that the BAy is finally getting its shine, it could have its downfalls as well. For example, america has had plently of influence over making the BLACK society look like fools. Going DUMMY on national T.V. is setting us back more then its showing how the BLACK race has grown. Imagine when people from other countries come to america and see that on T.V. A bunch of BLACK people going "DUMB," then when BLACKS, are in the presence of these foreigners they act nervous. As for the first topic, I don't think going dumb or getting hyphy will have any more of a negative impact on the perception of blacks than there already is. The stereotypes of the black community are deeply entrenched within the psyche of those in our society and have been for centuries. So a recent phenomenon such as this one won't make much of a difference in regard to this. Plus, it's natural for one ethnic group to make generalizations about another or look down upon it's culture and there isn't much you can do about it other than accept it as the way things are.

As for the second topic, you're right, Blacks in America created their own culture over many centuries and although they're still biologically tied to Africa, they're worlds apart socially and culturally. So yeah, the Black ethnic group in America is distinct from the African American one(Africans that are recent immigrants to this country).

The reason I am implying the movement was not good is because a lot of people don't even know the GOM section exists (you should read how many people say "I didn't know this section existed.) and this thread would receive more responses in the BART forum where it originated. I would argue Gangsta Rap being damaging to black America.

Before you even heard of Gangsta Rap on television you had white people afraid of the Mexican and Black gangs. You had white kids who didn't know what the language, the colors, the life was about. And then Gangsta Rap stuck white America's perceived notion of the illiterate man-rapes that black people were sure to be.

Back then you had angry urban youth, because most rappers where in their late teens or early twenties, not only explaining their surroundings with lyrical ability but you had them SHOUTING HATE AT THE OPPRESIVE WHITE SYSTEM. You had songs like Fuck the Police and Boyz N Da Hood that were a departure from the typical New York Rap music.

You had songs about making money from drugs, being addicted to drugs, songs about murder, songs about loosing friends and family to gang violence, perpetual incarceration in the "system." And although most of the rappers are now faggots they got the message out.

Fast forward about two decades later and you now have white kids who LOVE the gang life, white kids who WANT to live in the Ghetto, white kids who do DRUGS because they think it's COOL. It made being in the ghetto fashionable, which was gay, but it did get attention to the whole blight of the people. Sadly the black leaders who ARE in the limelight attacked the music and not the factors that created the music.

Hyphy music is for idiots because it promotes idiocy and behaving like what rich suburban and some urban white people think most black people behave like anyways. Gangsta rap will always be a the archetypical "FUCK YOU WHITE AMERICA" gengre of music to me even though it's dying if not already dead.

I can't really draw a comparison between the pros and cons of gangsta rap.
But I can easily make the argument that gangsta rap promotes the behavior that the Klan wants from African Americans.

Back to my initial point, to all of a sudden becom enlightened and caring about the repercussions of rap music regardless of genre is a bit "iffy" to me.
Especially when it comes from a cat who's outside of the Bay....
