Check this out.

The Aptera is a new hybrid prototype vehicle built by Accelerated Composites for Aptera Motors (an Idealab company). This futuristic-looking car combines a super-efficient diesel hybrid engine with an ultralight carbon fiber body to deliver over 200 mpg in hybrid mode, or drive close to 200 miles on a single charge in batteries-only mode.

Only 20,000$

Something little bigger....Loremo

157 MPG Car, made by a German car company and as compared to Toyota Prius’ 55 MPG. Takes 20 seconds to go from zero to 60.

It will take a long time before these cards are produced en masse. Not only is the demand so low that it makes them extremely expensive to produce, but the internal combustion engine has undergone several decades of research, making it an extremely efficient and cheap product. On top of that, governments still subsidise oil and car companies, making it even harder for sustainable energies to compete.

I think both cars look really ugly too. They should stop trying to make them look futuristic and stick with what's currently on the roads. 0-60 in 20 seconds won't appeal to many people either - i.e. more research is required before these cars will make their mark on the planet.

Great to see a step in the right direction though, everything has to start somewhere...

Oh, I'm quite happy, believe me! I think we're experiencing a paradigm shift with regards to climate change - out of the blissful ignorance of 'we didn't do it', to the admission of fault and subsequent 'climate custodian' attitude. GO WORLD!

Here's another one - that’s an artist rendering of VentureOne, a plug-in hybrid vehicle designed to achieve 100 miles per gallon with top speed of over 100 mph

http://www.flytheroad.com/

Venture Vehicles, the company behind the car, will be at the Cool Product Expo, a Stanford University event that showcase new and innovative products. If you’re in the area, the Expo is on April 11, 2007 12-5pm at the Arrillaga Alumni Center, Stanford University. Attendance is completely free.

David Abramson of the Stanford Graduate School of Business, the lead organizer of the event, said that notable products will include Tesla’s Roadster, Aliph’s Jawbone Bluetooth Headset, Linden Lab’s Second Life, Lexus’ self-parking LS460 and NeuroSky’s brainwave reader.
