Fa sho Bro....I'll bring in by on Thursday

@WestAfrica It's written by Earl Ofari Hutchinson...it addressed the fact that our generation is lacking the presence of black leaders that possess qualities of those in the past. It gives background info on those forgotten, or should I say overlooked leaders of the past. It also talks about the present and where we can expect to be in the future in terms of black leaders I personally liked it because it talked about MLK's achievements that were beyond those of the media's version Civil Rights Movement.

WHAT YAW PERSONALLY FEEL ABOUT BLAK LEADERSHIP? IN THE PRESENT? IS IT NEEDED? WHY? WHY NOT?
EDJ,

I think the problem in the black community right now is that we are waiting for the messiah to come save us from the terrible things this country has been doing to us, and thats where the big problem lies. Many black folks in ghettos need to mix themselves in leadership activities. Instead of waiting around for the next MLK jr. we need to become more active in our communities.

Instead of having a million man march in Washington we should have a march in all our trouble cities. Have a nice big ralley in Oakland, Richmond, San Francisco, Atlanta etc. Setup block parties in our neighborhoods, and get to know each other. It's all realistic and can be done.

Well the current state of black leadership is dismal, about non-existent. We have some good leaders, but not much action.

AFRICA2010,
I FEEL YOU. BUT IT'S EASIER SAID THAN DONE. HOW IS BROTHAS SUPPOSED TO COME TOgETHA WHEN MOST OF US IS POWERLESS, UNDA SCRUTINY, CHARACTER DEFAMED, INCARCERATED, OR NOT IN N-E POSITION TO MAKE MOVES? I FEEL THAT EACH MAN HAS TO ATLEAST TRY TO IMPROVE HIS SITUATION AND THEN TRY TO BUILD BRIDgES. THIS SYSTEM IS SETUP FOR US TO FAIL.
BUT FOR ONE MAN TO RALLY US IS IN A SENSE OLD SCHOOL TACTICS. EACH MAN SHOULD HAVE THE MIND SET THAT THEY ARE THE LEADER AND SEE WHAT THEY CAN BRINg TO THE TABLE, NOT SEE WHAT THE TABLE CAN BRINg TO THEM.

AND POETIC CHOCOLATE,
WHY YOU HATIN' ON DEEP THOUgHT? KATINA SHOULD'VE NEVA KNEW. LOL

It's not old school for someone to rally us, because ain't no one else doing it. Would there have been a million man march without Farrakhan? Like I said everyone should engage in some sort of leadership activities. Do more in the community, I am not talking about old black folks, but I am talking about young black folks the teenagers. Thats the only way shit is gonna get done because its all about us we are the future.

At this point it's going to take someone "in the game" to turn things around. Chuck D of Public Enemy had a shot but his sidekick Flavor Fav's dumb ass brought them back down to earth and stole some of their credibility away. Chuck D is still a force when he steps in though. KRS1 punched out that fat kid from PM Dawn and knocked out his political respect right with it. In recent years I would say that Tupac had everyones ears at his disposal and had he been able to turn the corner (even with his fuck ups, he was that charismatic) he could pulled off the upset of the century.

The urban god is now M-O-N-E-Y. EDJ is right on about that. We're too concerned with pipe dreams of fine clothes, food we can't pronounce, fast cars and even faster women. Hip Hop and the "pro athlete" dream has grown into a monster even beyond our control. It's such a big business (affecting all culure) now that it's promises of superstardome and a new start "...on the east side" is too much for us to resist. Most (enough of us to fuck it up for all of us) ) of are either caught up trying to be one of these elitist rap/music stars or super athletes or clambering over our selves trying to buy their next CD, video, jersey, sneaker or whatever we need to just look like "them." We're a nation of consumers. Sure you got your FUBU and the rest but look at their prices. Only drug dealers and the super athlete/rap/music artist can afford them in anything close to bulk. So it brings us right back to trying to be, wanting to be, needing to be just like the Jones'.

Our priorities are all fucked up. Until we can begin to untangle ourselves from his mess (fucking up our credit along the way) we will continue to be nothing more than mindless consumers sitting in front of music videos waiting with the phone to order the next "big thing."

Yes, someone will have to step it up but, we got to get into the right mind set as a people in order to receice any blessing.

i'm white and may catch heat for this..but to me jesse jackson, al sharpton, and louis farakhan are not what the black race needs to continue their fight for equality...i have not read any of their literature, and do not study their teachings, but from what i understand, mlk wanted everyone to join togther in harmony, but demonstrations like the million man march just furthur separates us from one another, and forces our races as a whole to take two steps back for every one forward

Deepthought are you black?

EDJ, you know that a lot of young black men have a fucked up mind frame. It's gonna take education for young black men to realize that they're all leaders. But our schools don't teach us that shit, you ever heard Dead Prez song "They Schools", school doesn't teach us how to help our community. I never disagreed with action we need to physically go out and do shit, we need to make shit happen in our streets that why I said we need to start communicating. BLOCK PARTIES, get involved with people, find ways to make shit right.

Yes I agree its gonna take a bunch of black folks with money to unite and say we gonna change shit in our places. Shit a gang of black basketball stars, movie stars can come together and devise a plan that can help out communities.

I guess you can say I'm old school because I like leaders. I like that one guy that sets shit straight. That represents a large amount of black people. But every single one of our leaders are always getting hammered by the media...LOL!!

I see where you are coming from..BUT

The million man march does not seperate us from one another. This rally was NOT intended to DISS WHITES or call whites devils. But some whites feel threatened by a gang of black folks joining together especially millions.

Our black community is in shambles, and the million man march was to get our black men together to get shit right. Quit disrespecting our women, quit being dead beat dads, quit hanging on the streets and causing trouble...ya feel me? It was basically telling us black men to be MEN. The thing with Farrakhan is that you are lead to believe that the man is hateful and trying to divide people..ITS NOT TRUE. He's said some anti-semitic stuff.. Well read for yourself what he says....

"They [the Jews] are the greatest controllers of Black minds, Black intelligence. They write the scripts -- the foolish scripts on television that our people portray. They are the movie moguls that feature us in these silly, degrading, degenerate roles. The great recording companies that portray our people in such a filthy and low-rating way, yet they would not allow such a man as Michael Jackson to say one word that they thought would besmirch their reputation, but they put us before the world as clowns and as purveyors of filth. No, I will fight that."

Farrakhan has some cons and pluses about him. He believes in family and stresses that us black men need to start being leaders in the house hold, he believes in loving one another. He said if you're black and believe that you're better than a white person because your black your're wrong and vice versa. His last speech was mind boogling :classic: ....I loved it, there were several inaccuracies but his message was strong like it always is.
