The Coup is distinctly hip-hop but is also a band/group that incorporates funk and rock into their music. For this type of fusion, they are way too unappreciated. They've been around for a long ass time and it sucks that their bus crashing fucked them up so much. A reason why they don't get as much love is because their music, lyric-wise, has been "controversial." truth is, it's powerful content but it's not that outlandish. Especially for the Bay Area, which has always has been a hotbed for political hip-hop. The Coup just happens to do it in a dope ass fashion.
