they had this show on mtv2 produced by XXL called "the best of the westcoast" somethin and they played the top 10 videos produced in cali. beginning with:

10. e-40 - sprinkle me
9. digital underground - humpty dumpty
8. warren g - regulators
...
3. ice cube - today was a good day
2. dr. dre f/ snoop - nothing but a g thang
1. nwa

not in that exact order.

now a days, the west is getting no love period.

why? because everyone is trying to make some club banging down south lyrical bullsh1t the west coast vibe dont represent.

all the artists coming out of the west is trying to attract fans rather than making music that relates to the westcoast vibe.

looking at those days when the west was on top, the west was off some "this is how i feel, im gonna run with it" shit.

but now a days, dudes aint even trying to make music no more except do some rap bullsh1t.

i cant say the westcoast vibe is dead, but its running out of breath.

too short mentioned somethin bout that in an XXL interview early last year. about how most "hip hop fans", at this point in time, want club knockers. and here in the west, it aint being done because we dont support our artist like that. i see that in the club today..example, was at City Nights in the Sco last month, nigga went wild over Lean Back, Magic Stick, and Culo. noboby got too hype when Its a Slumper was played. or when Hyphy was bangin
in my opinion of west coast/bay area rap,..its purely music to lounge, cruise around rattlin windows and shit...cause thats how i do's it..but should west coast/bay area artist join the trend of putting out more club heatas to gain a bigger spot in the industry?

I say the exact opposite. Frontline doin their thing, Team goes with an mainstream sound but they near perfected that shit, Quinn got some incredible rhymes, Mac Dre god rest his soul was one of the most creative rappers ever, so is E-40. Dont forget the bay got Del, Hierogyphics, Living Legends, The Coup, Blackilicious, all huge underground acts. Yukmouth always got something to say. Equipto on that hip hop shit too and its sounds clean. The Games album is doin real well, I gotta say Yuk got em good but since half the people dont know who Yuk is he's still sellin real big. LA has Rass Kass, Sly Boogie is goin to be up n coming, Mitchy Slick got his own sound. I mean for real, I dont see wtf people gotta go back to this "oh the bay sounded like this ten years ago" FUCK THAT IT WAS 10 YEARS AGO recognize game some rappers are still doin it big, others are coming of age and the bay is more competitive then ever its the truth.

I didnt even mention Keak man, original and about to blow.

Look its not that the west is dead. It's that we just aren't being noticed. for someone to say that we aren't putting out good music is serious misjudgment, because like people have said before me there are alot of quality acts that are consistently putting out quality music. maybe some have changed to fit today's persona of rap, but its not garbage. music changes, i think eventually we will be knockin old school simplitic beats again much later down the road, just like early 90's, but right now its all about club (fortunitly or unfortunitly)

I agree. There are some str8 slaps that get overlooked by the rest of the country cuz it doesnt fit the mainstream sound. so for now we're under the radar when it comes to how everyone else in the industry see's us. i do gotta admit, i get a sick feeling in my stomache when i hear "lean back" all the fuckin time on a station that should be supporting its own local artists. not play into the "its what everyone else listens too" type of malarky

i'm not from the west but i'ma huge fan since the nwa, and king T days , and in my honest opinion about why the west wiill never be the same is that its too much west .vs. west beef right now, i'm from the south and iit aint like that down here , these niggas support each other like hell wack or not, and the west has way more talent than we do but its just too much drama out there
