PORTLAND, Ore. -- A vandalism suspect that took off in a stolen taxicab in Northwest Portland was arrested after a police chase Wednesday.

Just before 4 a.m. a security guard told police he was chasing a suspected tagger who had just stolen a cab. Investigators said he took it from the driver by force. Minutes later, officers spotted the cab in Northwest Portland.

Police stopped the chase and the cab crashed into an onramp near the Steel Bridge and the man took off on foot.

Officers soon found 21-year-old Samuel Lehtinen near NW 5th Ave. and Glisan.

He was arrested for attempting to elude by vehicle and on foot, failing to perform the duties of a driver, reckless driving, robbery and unauthorized use of motor vehicle.

Alleged Tagger Flees State, Is Arrested In Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. -- A 21-year-old man arrested and suspected of tagging several properties in Seattle has been arrested again in Portland, Ore.
Sam Lehtinen was arrested several weeks ago after Seattle police say he tagged the word “Zeb” on walls and windows in several Seattle neighborhoods.
Lehtinen bailed out of jail last week and apparently left the state.
He was arrested by Portland police early Wednesday morning after a car and foot chase, according to a news release from Portland Police Bureau.
Police said they received a call that a security guard was chasing a suspected tagger and that the tagger had just stolen a cab.
Officers located the stolen cab and began to pursue the driver. The suspect eventually crashed the vehicle and then fled on foot, police said. He was soon captured.
According to court documents, Lehtinen was arrested for eluding police, reckless driving, third-degree robbery, and unauthorized use of motor vehicle.
Seattle police said they arrested Lehtinen on July 14, after an officer thought he was acting suspiciously in a recessed doorway in Belltown.
Police said the man was carrying a spray can and that the paint in the can matched paint on the man’s hands and paint in a doorway.
