SAN FRANCISCO -- Two San Francisco patrol officers were treated for injuries they sustained while trying to escape gunfire by a suspected bike robber Saturday morning in the Sunset District, a police spokesman reported.
Two patrol officers who witnessed the suspect taking a bicycle from a garage at a home in the 2000 block of the Great Highway at around 1 a.m. attempted to stop the man, but were forced to take cover when he produced a gun and began firing at the officers, police said.
Officers returned gunfire and the man ran toward the area of Ocean Beach, according to police.
Multiple units were dispatched to search a large area of Ocean Beach for the suspect. A man who was later located in the area suffering a gunshot wound to his hand was taken into custody on suspicion of the shooting.
It remains unclear whether any officers were injured during the incident.
