When sad-sack loser Frank (Rainn Wilson) sees his ex-addict wife (Liv Tyler) willingly snatched by a seductive drug dealer (Kevin Bacon), he finds himself bereft and wholly unable to cope. But soon he decides to fight back under the guise of a DIY superhero called Crimson Bolt. With a hand-made suit, a wrench, and a crazed sidekick named Boltie (Ellen Page), the Crimson Bolt beats his way through the mean streets of crime in hopes of saving his wife. The rules were written a long time ago: You are not supposed to molest children, cut lines or key cars; if you do, prepare to face the wrath of the Crimson Bolt!

I'm a little skeptical that this will offer much more than Kick-Ass or Defendor, as they were both based on ameture super-heroes. I am in favor of the casting, though, so I will probably end up giving this a shot. It's going to come down to whether or not Rainn Wilson can nail this role. I'm leaning towards this being a good movie.

watched this last night. I thought it was terrible. It's a dark comedy I guess but there are pretty much no funny scenes. The beginning was almost unbearable. I almost turned it off after 15-20 minutes but I forced myself. It did get better. There was about a 20-30 minute stretch towards the end that was fairly entertaining, and surprisingly there was some pretty gory scenes.

but this movie has nothing on Defendor or Kick-Ass.

I give it a 4/10.

Dwight let me down. I'm betting there will be a few people on here that really like this movie though.

Wow. It looks like you and I are polar opposites toward this movie, 2-0-Sixx.

I just watched Super for the first time last night. I loved it. It is far superior to both Kick-Ass and Defendor. It's a darker comedy, yet it has more heart than those two aforementioned movies combined.

Based on the trailer, I was all but interested in seeing this movie. That's why it has taken so long for me to see it. The trailer looks boring to me. But luckily the movie is way better than the trailer.
Just watched it, some parts had me absolutely dying but there isn't enough of those moments throughout the movie. It was extremely dark at times but that just compliments the insanity and humor the film intends. I'm not gonna lie, I was disappointed when Libby died, let that kid cook.

Aside from the trailer this movie was quite an intriguing selection for me because I value the opinions of both 2-0-Sixx and n9newunsixx, probably more than anybody else in the forum. And like n9newunsixx said they had completely opposite takes on the film.

Anyways, I thought the movie was awesome. There was a point where it easily could have lost someone , right around the middle, but the ending more than makes up for it. IMO the first 30 minutes were good and I was immediately into the situation/character developement. Then in the middle I thought the movie had lost whatever it had built up in the beginning and was thinking it was going to tank. Then the last 30+ minutes was utter awesomeness.

One of the very best things about this movie was the score/music selection which was phenominal over the final scenes. I would go as far as to say it ws perfect. I actually thought Wilson did a great job; just about everyone did except Page which is surprising because she's a good actress. When she exhibits signs of self-deprication she is good, but when she tries to convince Frank to let her join, or when she tries to be overly-interested in what he's doing, it was just terrible! Classic over-acting. Casting was great especially Liv Tyler; very nice.

All I know is when the movie was done I was very impressed. I thought it was better than both Defendor and Kick-ass. Maybe there was a reason for the slow parts towards the middle, idk. But I really liked this movie.

2-0-Sixx did someone run over your dog right before you watched it or something? :ermm:

This movie was terrible. Who's head did they hold a gun to in order to land this cast? Some of the worst acting EVER from any of these people. If this movie didn't have the cast that it does people would be shitting on it (other than those "it's great because it's so bad" people).

I still haven't seen Defendor, but this movie has nothing on Kick-Ass.

Maybe it was my expectations. I expected it to be funny, light, and well acted. Instead it was virtually humorless, dark, and akwardly badly acted.

Should have known something was up when my wife muted the movie during the opening credits and I turned and said to her "They must be good friends with someone in a shitty band and someone who likes to draw shitty pictures." And at one point we nearly fast forwarded through it because the little animated music video was so god damn long.

This movie was generally a waste.

2-0-Sixx nailed it with his review. Too bad I didn't read that before wasting my time.
