Over the last few years ive noticed independent labels that reach a certain success start creating sub labels and sign undergound artists and just sit back and enjoy the profits..with tech having success with his recent album and a bunch of artists being signed that noone really cares for..would it be a good move for strange to make a sublabel and sign some underground people ?? or would the costs to get that running be more than the profit ud gain ?

Id like to see a sub label of good artists but with the direction of who there signing lately to the head label it seems that be unlikely unless they allowed the community to have some say in it.. Hopsin would be good on the sublabel <

Personally I can't see the point of doing something like that as I feel it nearly always sends a weird mixed-message to the fans about the "head" label's confidence in and opinion of their acts. The only exception to this I can think of off-hand would Young Money Ent, which was a smart idea because it allowed them to distance their new artists, crap as they may be, from the stale, ever-diminishing public perceptipon of Cash Money Records.

Anyway, don't Strange already have a "sub-label" in the works? Travis O'Guin said in an interview that they had signed Young Bleed to "a new label called Strange Lane".

strange lane ? wtf .. i think i remember that now... young bleed ? thats that 90s sound gangsta rap stuff huh ? use to be on no limit ?..

Well if they signed good acts instead of this generic sound stuff they could get good profits... if Hopsin had someone backing him i reckon that dude would blow up... peeps like young bleed would just die off after a cd cause no one looks to strange for that generic sound..

He's referring to that announcement of Strange Music West back when Lynch was signed. Travis is supposed to be the President and Dave Weiner is the VP if I recall correctly.

On May 14, 2009, a press release was issued by the label, naming Dave Weiner (formerly of Priority Records, JCor Entertainment & MSC Entertainment) the Vice President of "Strange Music West." In this new position, Dave will work hand in hand with Label President, Travis O'Guin from his satellite office in Los Angeles. One of his duties for the label will be to find and sign new acts to the label. Weiner was responsible for signing Sacramento, California rapper, Brotha Lynch Hung to the Strange Music label.
