Tech N9ne is headed to court. On Wednesday (Oct. 4), TMZ reported that the Strange Music founder is suing the similarly named Strainge Entertainment for trademark infringement.
Strainge is an L.A.-based label home to the ascendant Trippie Redd, and it’s named after the head of the label, Elliot Grainge, son of Lucian Grainge, the CEO of Universal Music Group.
According to legal documents obtained by the celebrity news site, Tech founded Strange Music Inc. 18 years ago in 1999, while Strainge Entertainment was apparently founded in 2016. In the docs, it’s claimed that Strainge Entertainment was founded to confuse Strange Music fans and essentially distract them from Tech’s artists on the label.
Tech N9ne, who earned his first platinum plaque for his “Caribou Lou” single a few months back, says consumers have been unintentionally linking Strange Music artists with the Strainge Entertainment on social media, and so therefore, he says the label is hurting his brand in a tangible way.
Strange Music is pretty much Tech’s life’s work. As we said before, the guy founded the independent label nearly 20 years ago, and in the time since, it’s become a roster brimming with top notch talent—with each act doing things on their own terms. Strange Music is distributed by Fontana, while Strainge Entertainment has distribution through Caroline.
Tech N9ne is apparently demanding that Strainge Entertainment change its name. He also wants any profits Strainge Entertainment’s made up to this point. We’ll have to see what happens next.
XXL has reached out to reps for Strange and Strainge for comment.

Saw this on HNHH a few hours ago, seems as if a lot of drama is brewing with all these recent circumstances.

I don't know who the fuck Trippie Redd is or any of the other artists under that label's umbrella but regardless it'll be a huge win for Tech & Trav if they manage to secure Strainge Entertainments profit's on top of a winning outcome.
