Bottom line -- Hip-Hop aint what it used to be. 80s Hip-Hop kills today's music lyrically and with its energy. As good as he is, can you even begin to compare TI (evidently today's best commercial rapper) with RAkim and Kool G Rap? And forget about comparing any of today's artists with the cream of the 90s -- by far Hip-Hop's best period. Please tell me what current artists compare to the icons of the 80s and 90s? There are none.

And where are the websites that truly pay homage to classic Hip-Hop artists? At least in NYC we have Ralph McDaniels' show The Bridge to give us a sample of the development of the art. Every other music genre waxes poetic about their classic artists. All Hip-Hop fans do is engage in the silly, tired, and played out argument -- "who's better ... Biggie or Tupac?" Classic Hip-Hop is so much more than that ...

and T.I.? c'mon homie. NOBODY considers him to be the best lyrical rapper. match Rakim against dudes like Eminem, Outkast, or Tech N9ne and it's a wrap. Really tho, the standards have changed.
You got a good point. The reason people hate the hip hop of today is because of all the trash that's around...we got like bow wow and shit that we have to listen to. But every period has their bullshit artists. Vanilla Ice, Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz, that "Take Me There" Song with mase and mya from the Rugrats Soundtrack. Rap just seems watered down right now because of all the shit we see on TV. But 10 years from now, we'll forget about all the bullshit artists, and we'll remember all the good stuff to come out of this decade and it'll seem just like the glory years again.
