I just saw this yesterday and thought it was tight. Okay. so I happen to be a Rocky fan alright?!?!?!
I am not gonna lie, I walked into the theater skeptick...
...but the story had depth (if you've seen the other ones) and it deals with Rocky being an old man wanting to fight for himself, (but it doesn't dwell on him fighting throughout the movie). It's based more on charater. If you see it, you'll know what i'm talking about.
Hence: They didn't ignore the fact that dude is old, it's not your typical we fight, I lose, I train, rematch & I win...
The movie is real all 10 rounds.

Adrian died in 2002, a lot of this movie is about him being depressed over her death. Its all about Rocky, His Son, Polly, and some new breezy he meets at a bar. Its a pretty deep movie about Rocky going through some mid/late-life crisis and still has the desire for one more fight.
ESPN aired a simulated video game type matchup between rocky and the now undisputed undefeated heavyweight champ who is hated by the public becuase of the fighters he is wooping on is all trash. The people want to see a real fight and his promoters push this simulated balboa fight to become a real exhibition fight.
They pull off gettng balboa a fighting licence and setup the fight and rocky begins his training. Soon enough the figh happens. Its 10 rounds of Rocky getting kocked down over and over but always comming back with that 2nd and 3rd wind he has to put it on the chemp something decent. Rocky obliously is not wining the fight on the scorecard the whole fight, but he is winning over the hearts of the viewers and the audience with his heart. He ends up completing the 10 round fight with of course a huge effort at the end.
Before Michal Buffer reads the results of the split decision, rocky and his enterouge leave the ring and start walking into the locker room. Everyone on the way to the locker room is prasing rocky and his effort in the fight. The announcer announces the judges cards and he wins on one and looses on the other two. But this movie wasnt about him winiing the fight in the ring, he won the fight with himself, finding out who he really was and doing what h needed to do...
