@ 211 - I'll be out there in SAN JO this whole weekend. I'll come thru and holla at you cuzzo, I'll be right around the corner at BM#1's house visiting my son.

@Plot - I agree with you to a point. The question here is what do you consider to be a success? What is and are the motivating factors that have people continuing to pursue doing music? Any rapper/artist from any city will almost always give a completely different answer, because what motivates me or drives me to do music may be totally different from what is behind your drive and/or motivation. You made the statement that it starts in the street. True in some cases, but I have seen many people hustke in the streets, and the fruit of thier labor turned out to be in vain, because they really didnt get anywhere. You may be in the street, but if you not tight on that mic, you lacking. So I would say it would be a combination of both the street hustle, which entails really hitting the pavement with what you are doing, as well as your skills on a microphone.

Alot of times taking your product to another area is what is needed. Thats business 101. You have to take the product where the people are diggin you. So what if you cant get your home citys support. There are alot of artists who are big and have a following in Germany, Japan, etc... but not really nothin here in the states, or in thier respective cities'. Again one would have to ask what you in it for. For fame in your immediate surroundings, or for a way of living a lil better, and making life a lil easier for yourself. Given a choice, I would give a fuck less about blowin up in San Jo or in Cali, if I was pushin major units and gettin big bread in japan. Money spends wherever, if it aint San Jo money, fremont money so what. This is why you have alot of artists that go overseas cause they out there spendin. All the out-of towners that come to San Jose are just that, out-of-towners coming to San Jose for the clubs, not to really get up on the hottest rapper that may have a cool ass cd out. When I used to go to clubs in various cities, I wasnt concerned about no cats slangin no cds, or who had the hottest shit out, i was there to drink and pull some bitches.

You said "if you are fake, you wont get the support". I have to disagree and say no sir. Like Young Robbery (211) said 90% is fake. I'll even up that to a cool 98.9% Just look at the majority of those on this site. Look at the flyers and posters you see in the streets. Most of them folks aint real. They are real on the internet where you can be whoever and whatever you wanna be. They can plaster they picture everywhere and have they name posted everywhere, but they be fake as fuck. Being a real factor in the streets aint respected no more in this shit. This rap game has become so saturated and fucked up that that shit dont even count, Alot of the biggest so-called gangsta rappers cant even do shows in they city, and I'm talkin about folks in Sac, SJ, Frisco, Oakland. I can even speak on So. Cal and some other places. What it has all came down to is some made up persona that a person has and some good story telling ability. thats all that is needed in the current Cali rap scene. It reminds me of those old boxing/basketball games where you could "create" a player. its not you, but its what you puttin out there to represent you. Me persoanlly, it aint about blowin up. Thats for them young cats that seek the spotlight and get off on the lil attention they get. It's about real life. Is all that rappin you doin, studios you being at all hours of the night, and clubs you hangin in getting you money so that you are able to put food on the table for your children, help pay the rent/mortgage, take care of some of the bills, and still have something that you can put away and save. And it has to be coming in regularly. Now given the option of blowin up, or using music as a form of stability but remaining lesser known, I would choose the latter.

Yes, this is a business. Alot of folks loose sight of that very real fact. To me it aint about the bay blowin up and or having a spokesman. Its about the indivdual artist that is dedicating a large amount of his life to his trade getting what he deserves off his moves that he is makin. No one will ever agree 100% all the way on who is real, and who is not. Some say pac was the realest, and then you have those that say he was a succa. To each his own. You cant look for no other man to speak for you, cause you are a man, you can speak for yourself. Some of these rappers were out there at one time, and it is known they was out there doin what they did in the streets. thats fine and all, but again I say lets speak real life. When you begin to have children, and really care for them and you are the provider for them being out in the streets is silly. You gonna have to do what you gotta do. Being in jail aint finna feed them. I see alot of these so-called in the streets rappers working regular jobs, cause thats real life. Rent aint gonna wait till your next record blows up. Cars dont run on how many mix tapes you been on. When you said that "cat was about it" what you mean? What was he about? About being in jail waiting for a muthafucca to put some money on your books? Waiting for mail call? A visit? bedding change? been there, done that. if thats what makes you real, I dont want that no more. I've had enough of jail, and all that other shit. Whats fucked up about it is that my 14 yr old son thinks that them streets is cool. I tellem its just an illusion, cause in the end it gets you atrip to a reception center and then a ship out to where you finna serve your time. Alot of them real cats from the turf, if given a choice dont wanna live a life like that. real shit. You used the word "we" alot. They say one needs to use "I" statements because some may not share your same sentiments. Thats spokesperson that you say spoke for us, didnt speak for me. He spoke for him, I speak for me, and you speak for you. You are 100% correct, alot of the youth are doomed due to being brainwashed by some ignorant muthafuccas that can rap, and in all actuality lead these young cats on a path to where they think silly nothin ass shit in these streets that are full of death, is something to strive for. Not my babies homie, not mine. And for them I will start with myself as the example.

Nation Time. Food for thought.

I'm Feelin This Thread!

I agree with these last few cats... San Jo can come up major...and when I say major, I mean Major!
One: Cats need to step their game up...just rhymin about your side of town aint good enuff no' mo'. Get better at actually tellin' stories that make sense. Everybody doesn't need to be a freestyle champ , or rap in tongue twisting outer space shit that makes no sense. Be real.
And when I say real I mean real to yourself and your peeps.
Two: Don't hate...there is enough bread for everyone to get paid...let me repeat that..there is enough bread and shine for everyone...show love and support for the next man...the 408 has over 1.5 million people living here!
there is no reason that the jumpoff hasn't happened yet.
I remember back in the day cats used to say that there was "no game" in San Jo to rhyme about.
Folks believed that shit while they was buying hella East Bay shit...I say this because the key to it all is the buying public.
The consumer base in the South Bay is convinced that you have to be from the "O" or from Frisco in order to be tight,...not true!
But cats who purchase product that's what they believe...so cats need to market their shit better, better quality, posters the whole bit. Cross marketing is huge!
Contrary to popular opinion, hella cats out there in the world are from the 408, they just don't claim it and don't show no love...Fredwreck is from the Southside SJ, did fools know that?
Peanut Butter Wolf is from Downtown SJ...shit even Coolio used to go Mount Pleasant High School back in the day...the talent been here...cats need to recognize...and we aint even talking about all the other artforms neither...I'm getting heated!
408/220!

PLOTONE said:
i should be sayin i...... when i say we i mean the people that have really been in the game at one time. would i want that for my son? definately not. but why is it ok for others to send that message when in reality thats not what their about. dont get me wrong, im 28 and am not about the things i was when i was 18. when i was 22 i was paroling from the state. i missed out on the best years of my life. i have no one to blame but me.being in the game doesnt mean anything other than i made the mistake. alot of what ive been through made me the person i am today. no doubt music in entertainment. no doubt 99% is fake. but whats the message???? you have people workin 9-5's hollerin mob, you have kids with rich parents strugglin, you have gangstas that wont throw a crayon in a pre school riot. but these are the youths idols. these are the same guys swearin there real. no matter who you are you will have your supporters and you will have your doubters. thats life. people always disagree. its human nature. no doubt you need to get out to other areas. but why dont they sell in their hometown? because they know the truth. they need the japans and germanys because they can fake the funk. they need the image because thats all it is. real life is i have the 5 bedroom house on the hill, reality is i earned it. not because of no one else but me. yeah i could still be in the hood, but like you said, im gonna lead by example. i didnt leave the game because im all bad, l left because it was better for me and my family. i dont even like this music thing too much because of some of the reasons i stated. dont get me wrong i know theres some real rappers. those are the ones we should support and help find another way. thats why they rap. all over my city its nothin but love. back in the day it wasnt like that. now my motivation is to make a difference. i can see by your words reese you are definately a grown man not another kid on here. i appreciate the comments because believe im a sponge and soak it all in......

sir moj....... im curious to what your definition of gangsta is cuzzin? being that you made the comment if your reffring to me or my camp let it be known so we can properly address the issue in th future.....
I wasn't refering to you or your camp. If I was I would wouldn't speak in codes I would be descrete and I would Pm you cuz Im not an internet thug. Other than that, no hard feelings taken cuzzo. I never "defined" what gangsta is. I was talking bout being in the streets and staying focus trying to get to the top doesn't mix and if it does for some people do ya thang.

just so yall know......

im not from the south bay but know that san jose is a big enough city that if properly marketed an artist from that area could do 5,000 units just in san jose alone...... thats 1/2 a percent of the population...........
