Yeah, I can't understand how Gnarls Barkley can sell so much

You see why rap sucks today - if there are 100,000 idiots ready to buy that crap (and most of them are "rap fans" as nobody else knows who the fuck Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo are), rap is really in danger

And what's really fucked up is that I know a lot of people who like it and didn't buy it but dl-ed it so there are probably 10 times more than those who bought it who listen to it

I can see why people are into Gnarls Barkley. It's something different. The last few years have been so monotonous. Thats why E-40 isnt sellin gold. It's not much different sounding than everything else. It doesnt make me jump up and run to the store. It's just average sounding. I love 40, I wish him the best, but I think consumers are just bored of the shit thats released today wether they want to admit it or not. It's the same type of lyrics over the same type of beats. Thats why Gnarls is hot right now. It's on some different stuff. Its kinda strange that 40 isnt gold. With all the promotion, he was even Punk'd by that dickhead Kuntcher.

There's nothing wrong in albums sounding the same as long as they're tight

most albums coming out aren't

that's why people are tired

but Gnarls Barkley isn't even a hip-hop album

P.S. I am thinking about buying KILLA Season though, especially if it comes with some kinda DVD extras or something. The album is growing on me and I already liked it to begin with.
no disrespect, but what is there to think about? its like 12 dollars, u either spend it or u dont. 12 dollars it about 1 hour of work, on average...thats nothin. its a great album, and it DOES come with a limited edition dvd....

"but Gnarls Barkley isn't even a hip-hop album"

Who cares, Hip Hop, Jazz, etc..those are all categories created by critics who cant figure shit out, so they have to label it. Bottom line, it's either good, or bad. You either like it or you dont. The album not being "Hip Hop" has nothing to do with it. You either like good music or bad music. If your just listening for "hip hop" then your missing out and seriously limiting yourself. And judging from most recent releases, you must be one un happy dude, cuz the spate of recent releases have sounded very very similiar and monotonous. And what defines hip hop anyways?? Some people will say this is hip hop and thats hip hop..who cares right??? In the end, its either good or bad...So, maybe you just dont like Gnarls Barkley, dont dismiss it because it isnt "hip hop".

some people just don't enjoy a rapper SINGING over strange beats

it SHOULD be a hip hop album because they market it as such, play it on hip hop radio shows, and sell it in the hip hop section of your local music store, yet IT'S NOT.

some people just don't like being lied to

Cee-lo = cool
dangermouse = cool

Cee-lo only singing for a whole album + dangermouse not at his best = not something people should pay money for

1. i already have it for free, it takes a lot to make someone pay for something they already get for free

2. $12 will buy me a half week of food or 1/3 tank of gas to get me to and from work for a week which will net me more $$$$

no disrespect, but that's why genius

what would working at mcdonalds have to do with the value of $12 ?

Try this genius

Maybe you were referring to some kind of perceived inability for me to afford the album? In that case . . .

1. i already have it for free, it takes a lot to make someone pay for something they already get for free

2. $12 will buy me a half week of food or 1/3 tank of gas to get me to and from work for a week which will net me more $$$$
^^^ these examples refer to the value of money, not the amount of money i currently posses. I’d again direct you to this, smart guy

What you were saying was never buy it or don't because you never said "buy it or don't".

Why would I even consider buying it? to support a quality release, those are few and far between these days, especially one that gives someone who already owns the album for free some incentive to pay for it, i.e. a DVD.

Did you even bother reading the thread before replying? Just to paraphrase for you, we were talking about the effects of bootleging and downloads on music sales.

My point being, if it’s a quality release I’ll pay for it even if I already own it for free.

Sorry Wolfgang Droege, i'm not jewish.

whatever guy, i read the GOM forum all the time, and ive seen the bible's u write in there, dont u have anything else to do with your spare time? maybe u need a girlfriend ro somethin...i aint gonna turn this into a 15 page thread arguing with somebody i have never met, never will meet, and dont care to meet in my life. therefore, this arguement is pointless and i will stop responding to any replies u make on this thread regarding the issues we have debated.
