DIGIDESIGN SAYS THE 002 HAD BETTER CONVERTERS, BUT I AINT NOTICED MUCH OF A DIFFEREANCE, AND I KNOW IT HAS A BETTER PRE AMP, (THE 001 HAS A GOOD ONE ANYWAYS) BUT I USE A SEPPERATE PRE AMP ANYWAYS, CUZ THE DIGI'S HAVE TOO MUCH OF A DIGITAL SOUND, I LIKE MY SHIT NATURALLY WARM, I GOT A JOE MEEK THAT HANDLES THAT FOR ME....

SO TO BE HONEST, THERE IS NO DIFFEREANCE TO ME, JUST SOMETHIN DIGIDESIGN WHIPPED UP REAL QUICC TO FOOL PEOPLE INTO SPENDING MORE MONEY...

WITH THE DIGI 001 YOU ONLY GET 24 TRAX, BUT YOU CAN JUST DO A SOFTWARE UPGRADE ON THE 001 TO GET T HE 32 TRAX... AND I HEAR T HE 002 COMES WITH HELLA PLUG INS, WELL I HAVE OVER 200 CRACKS OR MORE OF PLUG INS I SELL FOR $50 MAC OR PC, SO I DONT NEED THE PLUG INS... JUST DONT SEEM WORTH THE MONEY TO BUY A 002....

THE 001 YOU CAN GET AS CHEAP AS $600+ USED ON EBAY ALSO...

The question is, though, will the average listener be able to tell the difference in the end product? Maybe, maybe not... But I think that more relevance should be placed on the average listener's perception, not an audio engineer who has honed his hearing over the years to pick out the most minute details. Sure, it's nice to say you have the best equipment, but if it doesn't improve the end product, you've wasted your money.

oh, of course you can have great soundin shit...no one's denying that...
but point blank, with your skills, your mixxes would sound better on a 002...all i'm sayin

and the average listener must be able to tell somethin, because they all complain about the lack of quality recording on bay albums, well at least a lot of em do...
i know it's always been a complaint of mine, before i got into recording, same with a lot of my folks

i do Heresey...
the only draw back is that you can't get the DUY and MCDSP plug-ins...even Sony is starting to bring their plug-ins to PC...

besides that...PC is 100% as stable, fast, and good as pro tools on a MAC...this wasn't the case untill the 5.3 upgrade tho...

anyone using pro tools on a pc?
I do too. Only for the fact that I had a limited budget when I was putting my set up togther and a MAC would have eatin into the budget to much.

I was reading the other day that with Ver 6.0 ( and now 6.1 ) that digidesign has unified there code for both Mac and PC platforms so that means that comdability between the two formats wont matter so much anymore. You can work on a PC at home and take it to a mac later with no problems. While you can do this now ( must click on "enforce mac combabilty" button on the 1st set up screen ) there is problems with it, so now those problems should go away or be less of an issue. Well see though........

@Moe I wish the MC DSP plug ins where avilable in PC form.

THE REASON I ASK IS BECAUSE THE STUDIO AROUND THE CORNER FROM ME (itS LIKE 5 STUDIOS IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD) HAS PRO TOOLS ON A MAC. I HAD TO HELP THE CAT SET IT UP FOR MIDI AND WHAT NOT. HE'S RUNNING A MAC WITH A FIRE WIRE BURNER AND FIREWIRE HARD DRIVE. HE HAS OS 9 AND OS X BUT HE CANT USE PRO TOOLS 6 BECAUSE HE DOESNT HAVE THE *LATEST* MAC OS X UPDATE.

ANYWAY I LOADED SOME OF MY PRO TOOLS FILES ON HIS RIG UP. I HAD NO PROBLEM IMPORTING MY SESSION FILES OR WAV FILES. WHAT I DIDNT LIKE WAS BEING LIMITED TO THE 24 TRACK COUNT(I HAD TO DO 1 BOUNCE) AND HAVING TO CREATE A MASTER FADER. THAT WAS WACK BUT OTHERS THAN THAT IT WAS COOL. IM THINKING ABOUT GETTING A DIGI 001 ( FOR THE PC) AND RUNNING THAT ALONG WITH MY VS AND CUBASE SX.

@MOE AND VIEW 1 WHAT ARE THE SPECS ON YOUR PC. CHIP SET INFO WOULD BE HELPFUL ALSO.

i'm running an Intel 845e chip
P4 2.4/8 Ghz(i forget)
512 MB Ram(i suggest you get NO MORE then this with a 001, and up to 1024 with a 002...)
2 80 GB Maxtor Harddrives

duc.digidesign.com
check out the Pro Tools Host LE for Windows forum, the top it says best systems for under 800...my system cost more, but i get some bad ass results...but apparanetly cats are gettin results like mine with the cheaper systems(i'll fuck with the Pentium tho, i like to stay safe with big names)

my studio is in my sisters garage right now, so i can't get the full specs...

I need to update my comp but it gets the job done.

Asus A7V133 ( I dont even think they make this board anymore, but it is digidesign approved that's why I chose it, the 1st motherboard I bought didn't work and I didn't want to go thru that again.
AMD T-Bird 1200 ( the one's right before the new XP series )
2 - 30 gig, 7,200 rpm IBM deskstar's . ( One to run PT the other to record audio to )
256 megs of ram

I'm only running 5.1 right now I need to update to 5.3 so I can get 32 tracks instead of 24, I didn't register my 001 so I had to go thru digidesign to get it registered now I gotta go downlaod the 5.3 update. I'll wait on 6.0 until they work the bugs out.

I payed about $1200 for this set up two years ago. Now for half this you can get a new comp that will get twice the performance I get.
